IT WILL FIT BUT YOU WILL have to sort something out at the centre section connection !

best getting something like an sri center section too

it will get you kudos at the local kruize, but will not do much for performance. save your money & get a bigger engine when you can.

but he might not be able to afford a bigger engine

a 4 branch will cost about as much as a donor engine & when declared to the insurance, about as much to insure too.

lol i cant see fitting a 4 branch for what £40 to a 1.2 will be the same as insuring say a 1.4

ring up an insurer then.

throwing £40 away for maybe 1hp gain in the top end does just seem a waste of resources to me.

sorry. i'll try. but in 1990 it dawned on me that a std 1.3 or 1.4 engine will outperform a mildly tuned 1.2 every day of the week

If its one of those nasty Ashley 4-1's then it will probably loose power! You be better fitting a cast 4-2-1 from a astra or nova.

I know it wont do much, but when the timing belt snaps and all you need too do is fit a new timing kit you think twice with a bigger engine.

It aint abt power mate, there will be turbo power in there one day, its about reliability at the moment.

how will a 4-1 badly welded manifold help in the reliability department?

This.

Just get a different backbox, My Nova is a 12NV and I've just got a standard replacement center section and an aftermarket backbox.

Not much else worth doing on the 1.2, give it some new plugs, new oil, oil and air filters and that's all it will need.

+1

Most 4-1 manifolds are show and no go. There are only a few that work, and being 4-1 they tend to only work at high revs (5000+) giving you a loss below that. 4-2-1 with long centre sections (the twin bit) offer better performance at mid-range, and similar at top end. Which is why an old Nova/Astra cast 4-2-1 setup with matched & dressed up ports/flanges will beat any tube 4-1 setup when you look for the best power delivery. It may not look as pretty, but when you're looking for the last one or three horsepower, that's what you gotta do.

In short, save your £40, spend it on beer and kebabs instead, you'll enjoy it more!
