I'm just getting frustrated and injured trying to remove the petrol tanks plastic ball/cage thing that stops petrol going up the fuel neck. The stupid thing just refuses to get out, I suppose living somewhere for 24 years means you get rather attached to the place...
Anyway, does this thing have a proper name? and can you still buy them new anywhere?
why are you trying to remove it?? it is possible to get the ball back in thru the sender hole, but it is fiddly.

I have a shiny new tank for it to go in.
why not just butcher the old tank then?

Because I'd rather take the easy/lazy option and buy a new one if I can
I need to buy one of these as the cage/ball thing broke, so had to remove the whole thing.
Get a pair of grips, clamp on to the outer plastic edge of the cage, tap the grips until it moves, then slide it out

Same as edd i say, i did it for mine, just got a massive pair of grips and grip the outer rim of the plastic and twisted it. should then pull out easily! just dont grip it to hard
Why does it matter if fuel goes back up? As long as it isn't to far to can't see it being that bad.. Mine hasn't got it and the filler neck isn't the best(read custom) on mine and it does leak.
