Anyone know the size of the grub screw that locks the height adjuster ring?

One of mine has seized and has an allen key snapped in to it  so I'm planning on trying to drill it out carefully and cleaning what's left out of the threads with a tap, then replacing the grub screw.

5mm iirc

I suggest you don't use one after you get it drilled out, they always seize

What do you suggest to use instead?

You can get nylon ones, assume they wouldn't seize?

if you do put a new one back in put a bit of oil or grease on the screw first

Yeah was gonna copper grease them.

Mine have nylon ones - but they dont lock too well and come loose!

Use 2 rings and tighten them up, assuming you have the 1 ring version.

I do have the single ring version, noticed it was seized and sent it to gaz for a recon but it seems they only replace the seals and not the ring/screw setup.

It would be viable to use a second set of rings would just need to find some.

Saying that I've only spent 150 so far for them so they're still cheapish lol

Remember they only need nipping up. You dont need to be leaning on them.

Grease/lube them before fitting.

Have fun drilling through tool steel, espcially as the surrounding matierial will be far softer so the drill bit will wonder like buggery :(

Take it slow and use a pillar drill, should get there eventually the grub screw shouldn't be anything special and the allen key snapped in it is only a cheap bit out of a torque bit set.

It'll still be a high carbon content tool steel tho, and if the platform ring is ally, well your screwed then. Even in a pillar drill.

Cut the platforms off with a hacksaw and fit new ones.

That was gonna be my reply when the OP asks "well how the hell am I gonna get it off then?" lol lol

Id seriously doubt you will be able drill out the grub screw without damaging the coilover thread. It is easier just to cut through the alloy platforms and split them in half.

can you get a picture of it?

IMO the grub screw would just spin inside the threaded hole in the platform as soon as you take a drill to it anyway.

a left hand drill bit might do the job, if it gets grip in the grub screw it might losin in

I'd cut the platforms off as Adam says and then fit two next time so you can lock them together.

I just run mine with no grub screws as can't see how they can move with the weight of the car on them.

Not a prayer of drilling a grub screw out lol smashy smashy drill time :)

Even if I can attack it so the Allen key comes out I can try soaking it in oil and then try shift it. If not I'll source some more rings and hack it off.

And I was thinking of luv running without the grub screws but surely when you turn they would move?

Why would they? The shock turns with the wheel and the top mount has a bearing in that the shock piston turns in?

At what point has the allen key snapped off? is there any left protruding?

If so can you not get a purchase on that? if not then it's possibly just jammed in, so you might be able to free it by hitting it the opposite way using a flat screwdriver and a hammer, then if its still not coming out, i say to buy some more rings, and go the cut off replace with two locking together etc.

Plastic ones just round off after abit. Mine are held in place with a self tapping screw going through the plastic screw. Works fine never seizes and is pure pikey lol

It's snapped flush and yeah it probably is just stuck in there and should come out as you say will have a go at it tomorrow dinner time when I'm back at work and see what happens

For the record, i run no grub screws in mine either.
