Hi I'm switching gearboxes to get a better ratio - I've got one of the driveshafts out (very easy, almost fell out!) but the long one I just can't get out! I'm trying to use a screwdriver and a pry bar to get on it, I just can't get enough pressure on it.... is there a clip or something to undo first? Feels like something is keeping it there on the long one.

Its just held into the diff with a circlip. Give it a good sharp tug (you can push the shaft in and pull it out sharply but I'm not sure if this is good for the inner CV or not)

as above give it a good old tug or undo bottom ball joint and track rod end leaving the castle nut on and pull the hub with the shaft still in

bit rough but usaly works

Can pull the centre not the cv that way tho

Small pry bar and a big hammer to shock it out

If one shaft is out, knock it through with a drift & mallet (assuming you have std diff).

On an F20 the standard diff has a bar going through the centre of it? Is it not the same for all boxes/diffs?

smallblock have the bar going through aswell, But you can hit the other side of the CV with a small punch if you do it right.

Cheersboys, plenty of ammo for tomorrow - let you know if I'm successful!

Easier way-drop the sump pan off, turn the diff so you can see the shaft inside, then hit a flat blade between the end of the shaft and diff.It will soon pop then.Thats always my last option, and has never failed.

Yep it popped out, I held tension from hub end whilst mate popped it,with a mallet! Now how do I best put back in?! One I think is fullyhome by jolting from hub end with strut on, I cant get the other in... Dont want to hit inner cv with hammer/chisel for fear of damaging boot... Any ideas?

Bolt it up in the hub, and then use the hub as a slide hammer. Always done it like that.

Yeah, which worked on short but not on long.... I'll have couple of weetabix or something...
