gearbox query

i'm getting hold of a mk2 astra 16sv donor car...

trying to find solid proof of the gearbox on these and if they fit in my nova 12st

i beleive the 16sv has F16

and the 12st has f13wr

any help confirming for me would be apprieciated

I thought the SV was a small block engine F16's are large block box's.

Are the SV's not the old 1600 big block? Pretty sure they are.

i now know the 16sv has a F16 gearbox (big block)

and i need a F13 gearbox from a gte or gsi to mate it with the nova

can i keep the clutch from the 12st running gear?

no. you could get away with the driven plate off the 1200, but there are enough astra mk3's about to get donor bits from..

have you seen the f16 cast on the side yourself?? cos i'd swear the 16sv was on an f13 box. they did the f13 from 88 onwards..

this could be a life saver if true. it will be written on the bell housing what box it is so will have to wait till its dropped before finding out :(

any way of viewing the designation on the gearbox whilst its still in the engine ?

Yes Mowgli has just answered that mate, it's stamped into the end casing of the gearbox, so remove the nearside wheel and should be able to read it, you might be able to see it with only putting it on full left lock.

95% sure they are small block carb 1.6's.
Basically a 1598cc nova 1.4 8 engine.

The 16sv is definately a small block carbed engine as I was running one with e16se head and inlet etc. It will use the usual nova gearboxes, f13, f15 etc.
