View Full Version : Problems getting on PNG?!?

Prob one for the more computer minded.
I cannot get on the PNG website on my laptop, it can get on any other website fine though. I am running Windows 7 and have tried 64bit and normal IE. 64 bit does nothing, normal IE I get the top banner with a blank grey screen below and the progress bat has stopped half way. I can however get on here using my Blackberry, hence this post.
Please help, this is proper p:ssing me off :(

BTW it has worked fine up until tonight on this setup. Have PNG changed something on the site?!?

My advice is use firefox as your web browser, far better ;)

Also try clearing your cookies and cashe, this should reset IE but I've found on the wife's laptop that IE is getting worse these days.

Is it just PNG you have issues with?

If your BB can get on, and its affecting all browsers on your laptop, that would point at something in the local firewall on the laptop (or windows) is blocking it for some reason...

Bit it opens the homepage, just on Firefox but slow to load and some icons are an empty box with the red X in it. Can get the forum banner but that's it.
Help!

How do I unblock it? Never had a problem before. Has the site had an update or something?

Jack
01-06-11, 11:08 PM
Not that I'm aware of, unless Kev is squirrelling away in the background lol

I had a vaguely similar thing a while back where I inadvertantly blacklisted most of Celica Club in Firefox - not sure how I did it though, had to reinstall FF to fix it!

Anyways - do you have any Firewalls or suchlike running on the laptop?

Go on a site like hidemyass.com and try visiting PNG through there. This will tell whether it's a hosts/firewall type problem if you can access PNG through there (usually).

I pinged PNG to see if it would be possible to visit directly through the IP (as he could be having DNS problems), but doesn't resolve directly to the sites url and it's too late to faff around working it out.

Right. This is proper p!ssing me off and I I am getting ready to smash up my f'ing compuer.
I can get on using a hosting website. I have tried adding it to my trusted website list but that does not seem to have worked.
Just wondering if it is something to do with Mcafee as it updated the night before this happened.
Please someone help me before I go mad!

Try running avg freevirus software and also run malware virus software, you may have a Trojan virus somewhere on your computer.

Thankfully I have a macintosh so tend not to suffer with these issues lol

Might be worth temporarily disabling or shutting down McAfee, see if problems still persist whilst its off

Novasport
02-06-11, 09:31 PM
Jeez, how frustrating is this!
Just downloaded Malwarebytes, scanning now and nothing so far.
Triied turning off McAfee but still no access.

How full is your hard drive getting btw, does your pc seem to be getting any slower also?

Novasport
02-06-11, 09:38 PM
Just bizzare it is only PNG and that's it. Everything else is fine.

Novasport
02-06-11, 09:41 PM
Hard drive has 405 GB free of 451 GB. Seems a little slower than normal.
The laptop is only a couple of months old.

Novasport

Ah FFS, looks like I have lost Ebay aswell!

No, seems to have returned now, sorry! PNG still not coming up tho :(

Novasport

Right, have a little more to go on. I have dug out my old laptop and I cannot access PNG on that either so to me that would point to my ISP being the problem. Why would they block or prevent acces to just this one site for the last 2 days? Any ideas?!?

Have you tried restarting your router?

Does that give you an Apache page?

How does it go if you try using your blackberry and your wifi conection to your router?

Southie

tbh what are you really missing out on thought, if its only the adverts your blessed really lol

Novasport
03-06-11, 09:39 PM
Looks like a nationwide problem on Virgin Media. Bit dissapointing when you pay for a service and you cannot get on one of your most used sites.
Got a Proxy server address to use I got off the Virgin support forum so I dont have to keep posting on my BB.

Southie

I'd contact them and see if they can reimburse you for downtime, how longs left on your contract btw?

Novasport

Only just upgraded to 30 meg so about 11 months.
TBH, I have had about 5 years of faultless service from VM so should not really complain its just frustrating and at first I thought I had got a problem on my new laptop.

Southie
03-06-11, 09:48 PM
Well at least you know your laptops are okay, is that why you replaced you old one though due too a cr@p connection :(

Adam

I am on Virgin, is he?
Yeah I am. And I'm having the same issues. It takes 25mins load the home page. Its taking the piss. Virgin have definently changed something this week. I can't get into the forums on my laptop or brand new pc. So its definently an isp issue. Posting this via android and 3g btw lol
I'm on 30mb service too.

Southie

Just had a quick look on the VM forums and it seems it is indeed a nation wide problem causing some sites to not load at all.
Looks like everyone is using proxy's to access these sites until VM fix the problem.

How come though his blackberry works then if he's going though the same Virgin router ... snigger sorry.

Novasport

My Blackberry is using 3G high speed internet so thats why it works OK.
Dont need to use wireless with the BB as the 3G connection is excellent.

Same thing has happened to me, just managed to get back on this morning, to be fair i was blaming my wife for putting a block on this site lol

I've also not been able to get on here, or a few other sites for the last few days, glad to hear its not my computer(s) at fault. Its frustrating enough not being able to get on a few sites, I'd have more free time than I'd know what to do with if I lost the internet completely.

I'm on Virgin, we only get the cable BB no other services from them, and mines been 100% fine, no issues at all, strange, and i alway use my phone of our router, never 3G as to use our Internet is free, and 3G is way slower..

Hope everyones sorted now?

Adam
04-06-11, 03:00 PM
Mines still fooked. So I'm having to use my phone again. Scott, I usually use the routers wifi too, but obviously can't do that with these issues as its the service thats at fault. I'm on vm bb, phone and tv btw.
