View Full Version : Miami Blue Spin

Had owned a string of MK3 Astras and two Corsas. Had planned to make it three Corsas as I got a few trick bits I wanted to use from the last one.

Could I find a bloody Corsa though, could I hell. Then by sheer chance I picked up a Nova on my hols visiting family. A Miami blue 3dr, 1.0 Spin. I'm chuffed to bits with it :d.

Also by happy accident, I find out the one of the last owners is a user on here. Found the For sale AD he put up too.

Plans for it now is to sort any bad bits and shove a X16XE into it.

I'll post pictures and the link to the ad up soon.

Dave.

It was Angusl2006's old Nova.

I got it after the person bought of him finished with it. I didn't pay anyway near what he was asking for it in the ad either.

Will do. I post on MIG too, so i've got a thread on there too.

Found out Angus had bought it off here earlier last year lol. So it's doing the rounds then. Also been collecting parts for it too.

Engine wise, as said before a X16XE with a Mantzel powerbox and 4-2-1 manifold.

The SXi's were scabby as hell (and might for sale soon).

I thought i'd try something a bit different as well. Cheap to replace as well, got the front ones with toyo T1R's fitted for £30!

Got some Irmscher Spokes too, which i'll repaint and get tyres for.

Here's some more pics.

Bought a Corsa Sport for breaking (engine was shot) that came with the billies, Mantzel and other trick bits. All mine for £150!!

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8849/opelvita2.jpg

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1228/vitainside.jpg

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/6816/mantzelpowerbox.jpg

Got the hump trying to find a Corsa for sensible money that wasn't a total shed. So just about gave up on a project until me and a mate stumbed upon the Nova.

As bought. Wheels were changed for steelies half an hour after the car landed in.

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8452/dsc00465a.jpg

Fitted the billies (front only, corsa had them all round. But the goon fitted them didn't fit dirt shields to 'em and they were pitted with rust spots ).

The Irmscher 9 spokes i've got sat for it.

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/6550/dsc00059cp4.jpg

I'm going to give them a re-paint in silver. I stupidly swapped them a while back and they ended up being painted black!!

Then found a 1.2 SPi Nova in the scrappies. Got the engine loom and the VSS for the 1600 XE swap.
http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/1375/dsc00504f.jpg

Ended up with these too for a short time.
http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/9060/dsc00505hs.jpg

But swapped for some spare bits. Found I guy who had broken 6 Novas to aid his Rally car project, best bit I live about 5mins away. Gonna see if I can buy some more stuff off him soon.

4-2-1 Exhaust fanimold

Would liked to keep them. But it was too much work for me to re-furb them, might as well get some use out of them.

Just back from a week off.

In that time I cracked on with the Nova. New handbrake cables, wheel cylinders and brake shoes. Bit of a struggle thanks to the weather. It pished rain most of the time and had a hassle trying to source the correct brake shoes. Was given Corsa ones instead of late Nova ones  . But i've got a fully working handbrake again.

Random pic of when I was waiting for parts. Should of got some more progess pics but I really wanted the car back on four wheels.

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3309/dsc00520iy.jpg

A trip to a Vauxhall dealers in Newton Stewart netted me a GM back box. Not sure what car it was for but had been listed as 'Irmscher'. It's not in a great state, but i'll rub it down and paint it matt black. Cav SRi style. Picked up a new Hazzard warning switch at the same time.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7832/dsc00522oo.jpg

http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/3199/dsc00521n.jpg

Bought a set of clear rear lights off Tim on here. Not sure if i'll fit them as is or get funky with the red tint spray first. But until I make my mind up, I euro'd a spare pass. side light. The tint spray I used was crap, but doesn't look too bad on the car tho.

http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/3451/dsc00519i.jpg

Found a MK2 Astra in a scrappie, so the lock set was removed. As I wanted matching two key lock set for the Nova.

Boss- 'Fraid i'll be hanging on to these wheels for a long while. I was VERY lucky to get these ones. Can't blame you for asking tho, i'd do the same thing lol.

Iain- Cheers for the info on the back box. Have a rep cookie on me :thumb:. Tried getting the matching centre section, but it turned out to be the wrong one. I think I can get an aftermarket one instead.

Yorkie- Cheers :thumb:. I'll have to take a look at your progress thread in a mo. At a guess yours will be in better nick than mine lol. Mine still needs a bit of TLC from the MIG yet lol.

Quite surprised at how many Miami blue Novas are poping up at the moment. But all the better as i'm getting a idea of what works with that colour.

Cheers bud. Would of got a bit more done, but it was raining for most of the week I was off, grrrrr....

I also bought a Corsa GSi from a mate. XE'd with the coilovers and few other trick bits for price I just couldn't turn down.

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4486/dsc00578a.jpg

Then he fitted the suspension on the Nova while I painted the wheels. Which was a BIG help (Cheers Curtis).

I ended up with another Nova, rolling shell with stitch welded engine bay and plate kit. But that wasn't mine for long, done a deal with Curtis (again) for more stuff and he talking of making it into a track car.

Top marks to Mike!

Indeed they are Clio Turbines. I'm getting them with the car as well.

Also those are Irmscher Spokes, so you're right in guessing there Cle. I'm really surprised at well they suit the car. Laugh is they were VERY nearly weighed in for scrap by the outfit that sold them to me.

Sorted out the clear rear lights. Got another mate who does vynal graphics, to print red onto clear vynal.

Then I had a go at putting the stuff on. Not easy, but got there in the end.

Murray

Wouldn't mind going TBH. Never been to Knockhill yet.

But the Nova isn't on the road. No tax and short test. I'm hoping to have it ready for Vauxhall Day at Crail next year. Got to sort few things on it tho first.

Took a trip to scrappies on saturday. Went for a nose about and found of all things.

A pair of red SR seats with subframes. Ideal! Match the rest of the SR stuff that Angus put in it. Mine for £30 in useable nick, so can't grumble tbh.

Done very little with this car, until last week. Got some progress pics too (kinda).

Car is now at a mates' garage.

Found a puddle in the drivers footwell. So it's getting stored somewhere dry now. He's offered to work on the car too while i'm away. So it should see the road again next year.

The spare shell has also been cut up for panels to tidy this one up. Got two usable rear quaters and some other odds and ends.

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/2387/dsc0622f.jpg

Got some speedlines in a deal for my last car. Not sure about fitting them, we'll see. Might put 'em on my daliy beater Cavalier.

Still plenty of ideas to do to it and hoping my deadline of Vauxhall day at Crail will still happen.

Not seen any local Novas at all. Last one I seen was your old GSi rep, but that was a while ago now. Shame you couldn't spare the engine out of the Swift, they were little known swap for some rally boys.

Well an update.

Car's now on the road. Had to ask my mate to sort the car for me, joys of it being too feckin' far away.

Was down in there area on a weeks' hols, last week. So got see how it drove. Must say it's the most fun i've had driving car!

Also got one or two things sorted on it too.

The SRi seats i'd bought ages ago now fitted.

Been busy gathering parts for the Nova.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/6782/dsc0746h.jpg

I've found with owning older Vauxhalls, having a small stash of parts isn't a bad thing. You can also see i've got a Peco BB2, old school novelty I picked up for much cheapness and for 'lolz'. Happy bonus to find the ARB and trailing arms have been polybushed too :).

Also in the process of getting it ready for Viva Vauxhall day at Crail. I can smell the crappy, over priced burgers already!!

Murray
03-08-12, 11:01 PM
Thought i'd should bring this thread up to date.

Car made it to Crail, no bother. But after the trip it never felt right, soon found out why.....

While later, driving the car. I got the classic symptoms for head gasket failure, aw pish!!

Took this picture after i'd just pulled over.
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/4562/dsc00655alx.jpg

But a head set was bought and duly fitted in the pish wet. But Me and Curtis came up with a temp shelter to do the work.
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7737/dsc00660yp.jpg

Done in half day. On and off.... ish.
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/7772/dsc00661ln.jpg

Then drove the car from Dumfries back to Forres. Which was interesting, not! It was bloody hard work, condenser was failing and made overtaking fun.

So hoping to have a another engine sorted tomorrow. In the meantime though. I've started to collect some bits.

http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/3483/dsc00700oo.jpg

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/1111/dsc00702g.jpg

Picked up another set of 'lloys too. With centre caps too, in a need of fresh coat of paint.

Thanks :)

Not been doing much lately to the Nova.

Hope to change that soon. Got a set of poly bushes, flat flywheel, new clutch kit and a F10/5 gearbox. Needing a couple of more bits to do the swap. Going to do the head gasket on the new engine while it's on the stand.

Had been using it as a daily for the last while, but i'll be putting it off the road very soon. Lack of camber adjustment means it eats tyres, so i'm trying and save money by not sticking a new pair of tyres on every three months.

Murray
22-11-12, 09:01 PM
Spent a little bit of time on the Nova. It's now sat on the drive, too much bloody salt about the roads to drive it.

Front lights, grille and bumper off.

http://imageshack.us/a/img19/3379/dsc0799v.jpg

Not happy with the front panel, too many patches and needs many more. Towing eye has been ripped out, so that'll be easier to repair with it out of the road. Thanks to the guide for doing the job, it's taken some of the fear out of doing it. Also glad I got a spare pair of wings too.

Gonna sort the car in sections. I haven't the room for a full strip down tbh.

Thought as much. Might as well do the whole lot in one go then, the front panel on the car is scrap imo.
