Pros and Cons. Sell one against the other.

I'm saving for my bike license and a bike (got 2.5k so far), for commuting in decent weather and for weekend blats all over. Mrs has no problem with it, but threw a spanner in the works by distracting my attention and highlighting kit cars.

Given the choice, which would you choose and why? A bike or the likes of a Dax rush, or MK Indy?

Buy a bike IMO. Then when you get bored (highly unlikely, 2 wheels is addictive!) rip the engine out and build a kit car lol

Kitcar all day long if you get to build it yourself, wouldn't fancy a second hand one. Something along the lines of loggyboys in the projects section ( it may be a dax I'm unsure)

Although the thoughts of a motorbike has tempted me for years, I struggle to find a good reason for having one other than to rag the sh/t out of it, which would end in certain death / no licence etc as I imagine full throttle acceleration on a bike would be addictive! That's before adding that looking like a power ranger isn't something I would enjoy.

I may be biased towards cars though as I know very few people into bikes.

I would fancy a well built kara430, mercury or rs automotive evo 200 kit car.

Evo 200 would be a nice to have in the garage, or perhaps the lancia stratos kitcar on topgear a while ago.

I didnt get a kit car because of the Tax, Insurance and fuel costs. I'd rather pay less and have more of a buzz and learn somthing new as opposed to having another car to play with. Plus I work with cars all day so its a nice change :D

Still miss my zx6r but hey ho this is miles nicer :D

ive seen them in the metal and sat in one and had a proper poke around, very good quality for the money in my opinion. makes me wonder how other makes justify their price

Lovely bike Rexy. Leg good enough to get back on then?

I really fancy a MK Indy, or a Dax. Dunno why the sudden change 'cos my heart was set on a bike. All gone to sh!t now lol. Think I'll have to get in touch with a mates dad n bribe a pass seat in his westfield.

I checked the insurance on a Dutton phaeton the other night
running a 2.2 pinto that runs a 10.03 1/4 mile....

£190 tpft........

I was like wtf wtf my nova is like nearly 10x that lol

Kit car over a bike anyday!

Kitcar :)

I'd go for the slightly ugly Myrata (spelling) Impreza based one purely for the fun centre diff and winter practicality lol

Development/investment in geometric analysis, depending on what car you're looking at. Geometry and FEA'd components is what what makes a Westfield a Westfield, and the lack of it is what makes a locost a locost.

Vehicle dynamics lecturer is ex caterham :)

Indeed, the amount of a locost chassis that was removed and replaced with properly designed suspension locations etc when uni was building one was untrue!

essentially kept the cockpit and thats it lol

most of them rely on 60's ford or triumph geometry. it can be made to work ok. the original lotus 7 was built using similar methods.

Sierra axle cut and rewelded at about 1.9 degrees lol

So is it worthwhile saving up that extra few thou and getting a westfield? I didn't think there was much difference tbh, thought price was more to do with the brand type of idea. Are the Dax and MK's that bad really?

Did you get this quote online? If so, where? I've been looking everywhere but they all want me to phone up. I can't be arsed doing that 'cos at this time it'd only be curiosity.

Westfields are fantastically engineered cars, no doubt of that in the slightest. My lecturer, as ex Caterham, speaks of them very very highly, generally as an example of the maximum engineering expertise you put into a car before F1 DTM etc.

hmm.. caterham did sue westfield over copyright breaches.....

So for an ex employee of theirs to then go on and speak so highly of them says a lot imo :)

well, westfield's caterham copies were good, but when they needed to redesign them, they were better... thus caterham needed to raise their game.. but also look at the other stuff that westfield have designed since

You can't get your front end up in a kit car nor can you get your knee down lol

And the biggest reason to get a bike, You can dress up like a power ranger in leather whit woo :thumb:

Anyone can buy a gimp suit on the internet :p

Dax's are great, I had a wander round their factory in Harlow and they appear as 'good' as caterfields.

the locost thing is a cheap way in but ultimately the effort and cost needed to be put in to make the car nice to drive kinda gets you near the higher end kit car costs anyway.

I would have a locost to just **** about in, but for a more 'serious' toy I'd base on a better engineered commercial option.
