Why are these so expensive?

Because you can clang a kerb/stone/gatepost/tree stump (<always a classic one lol) at 60 & they wont bend/snap like OEM ones do.

is there not a rose joint pressed into the part that bolts to the wishbone? and then a pin that goes through the rose joint into the hub?

No mate, not on Uniballs. But I know what you mean, I have seen rose jointed bottom arms in the past. The idea of the Rose joint is to adjust the camber by pushing or pulling the hub in.

Uniballs are just a stronger OEM version to be fair. To be honest I think they are extremely expensive for what they are particularly because they aren't adjustable.

not worth it IMO, you'd need to have some impact to destroy a standard one. i bent the bottom arm and its mounting point and pushed the strut top into the battery tray but the ball joint was still ok.

i spoke to a mate about these a few years ago, he used to stage rally a nova and had numerous class wins, he said he never broke a standard one. so unless some come up on ebay for £20 i aint going to bother :)

I know there the hockley ones take the p1ss at 272 quid but there are normally ones on ebay for around a oner

Think you can get the Compbrake ones for around £130 but again they really aren't needed IMO.

Rosejoint is just 'slang' for a spherical bearings mounted in a rod end setup.

They were designed for use in rallying - more for forest rallying where the standard joint wouldn't last one stage. As Dayle said, they are non-adjustable, because Gp.A didn't allow adjustable - but it did allow beefed up units like this.

Yes, they are expensive. But you get what you pay for.

Road cars do NOT need them.

Rosejoint is just 'slang' for a spherical bearings mounted in a rod end setup.

Rose Joints were made by Rose Engineering Ltd. who held the patent for them.

The Americans call them Heim Joints as they were made by The H.G.Heim Company.

Developed by the Germans, used in their WW2 aircraft - and "found" when we shot one down in 1940. The designs were given to Heim for North America, and Rose for the UK/Europe.

So it's not slang, it's a proprietary term.

ahh, but if you call it a rose joint, it sells for more money.......
