faulty fuel gauge

weird one guys hopefully use can help?
got j plate 1.4 sri standard clocks etc fuel gauge just recently playing up showing past full how ever when i was loading the car boot other day with stuff for work car was packed then the gauge worked normal!!!
any ideas?

not sure if you can still get them,

Not a hard job to replace, either a twist in one or bolt it

check the wire too

if the guage worked when you filled the boot id guess theres a fault with the wiring

trace the wiring back from the tank to under the back seats then to the front for any splits in the wiring
