how can you not love the sound of throttlebodies, only way round the sound is either an air box but that will only quieten it a little but may loose a little power or to remove the engine and throttlebodies sell them on and buy a let

I have the same set up and the noise is fantastic! I recently took a mate to Germany who has never been in a Nova, let alone one with throttle bodies. Even she loved it!

YOU FAIL at being a petrol head! lol

Surely a troll? I'd rather listen to the sound of throttle bodies all day than have sex, the end result (after 6 minutes) is the same :d

Cant believe you dont like the noise.

But there again i only drive mine a couple of times a month so maybe everyday it would get annoying.

As for the filter. I dont think fitting a 'proper' filter as supplied by Jenvey, SBD, Pipercross etc would loose you any performance you would notice from behind the wheel.

Here is mine i bought direct from Jenvey.

You must be dreaming throttle bodies were put on this earth to make love to the ears of the people listening to them

As if the filter makes any real difference to power! lol

If anything you are being a tard for not fitting one - one stray chipping and say goodbye to your engine.

As for the noise - get a pipercross sealed box - that quitens them down.

Good memory! lol

Although it lasted all the way from SBD to Wales!

They only 'make noise' (as in lots of) when you are at max throttle lol

phazer

Ah but the sucking like a cheap hooker noise while you get to max is much fun also lol

so build a decent intake with a feed pipe to the front grille.

Indeed mate.
How can you not love the sound, and as for filters why people run them without is nuts! One stone will put all that hard work to waist

Even the chav wagon makes that noise and its single TB lol

See this all the time, lots of hard work eating and a stone goes to your waist.

i have to echo the replies about the noise ; thats why you by ITB's..
Anyway; easy solution to this - longer trumpets and as mentioned a filter.
Minimum 90mm trumpets; but the longer they are the quieter itll get, plus filter does muffle the rawness of the noise as well.
Should also see slight gains in torque? longer trumpets; longer inlet tract.

I must admit, stall, chatter and dump valves do get irritating after everyday use, however, the simple fix is not to drive it on full boost everywhere. But I'd rather ITB noise anyway.

i guess everyday it would annoy you, loved the sound of my series 2 turbo when i fitted the efi running 18psi,sounded awesome

you lot appear to miss the point on this.. throttle bodies are meant to be there for a power gain, and not for the lovely noise.... which on a daily basis would sound like a wetvac

blue_peg_16v

sorry but i ran 48 carbs for years as a daily and never got bored of the sound

Chatter is much better than chavvy atmo dump, I did like it on my FRST

But I will agree with everyone else, induction noise is the best.

Turbo stall really really grates me, I hate the noise. Probably as all I can envisage is turbine damage lol

V6 sounds nice even on standard inlet/injection. Which isn't good as its an incentive to plop your foot down all the time, not wise on a daily :(

db_1.2

People say that stall damages the turbine. But I never had any trouble.

MK999
26-05-11, 10:22 AM
I like the standard Corsa VXR's valve which seems to chatter softly at low revs then dumps when you really go for it. Very odd way for it to work tbh but it does sound nice.

I like the noise its just to loud it has the firewall removed aswell.
When you driving about under load you carnt talk you have to shout a think its let time.

antilag murders engines.. a bloke i was talking with at the midland rally reckoned he was rebuilding his evo engine every 500km, and it sounded awful.. it might have made power, but sounded like a rivet gun

Jack
26-05-11, 10:36 AM
Yep, some people reconnect it on the 205WRCs thinking that because its there it has to be used... but quickly disconnect it again when it starts eating turbos lol

Stall can still damage them over time though. Its jarring the turbine and shaft.

it was meant as a means of getting huge torque thru a tiny air restrictor on a wrc engine, unless it was a toyota [cough cough] so playing round with pulsing etc, on an engine that would only have to last for maybe 500 stage miles max. with unlimited turbo changes... this sort of stuff should not be allowed on the road.

My understanding is that it isn't road legal? I'd be surprised if it met emission regulations.

cant dispute the awesome noise of throttle bodies esp with added quaife cream on top :thumb: Here's the vid of mine when we had our first 'proper' drive of the car and the first time with TB's

Probably isn't legal, but I can't think off the top of my head any obvious law against it. It won't have any effect on emissions in terms of MOT as they're tested at idle and 4(?)000rpm, anti lag only really effects run down.

Had to be there though to meet homologation regulations apparently.

Bloke at my Motor club used to run a 03 plate WRC Impreza. We will not go into running costs but if you didn't throw 2k a competitive stage mile into it, it was not reliable (14k for a new 4th gear with 7 in the box:eek: ) . Anyways it has a on board computer which on the dash there is a switch which runs two maps

R = Road
S = Stage

The road map is dog turd slow it may aswell be a 1.0 fiat punto this must be how they pass emission tests.

Stage map, well its like being kicked in the stomach by a horse. The torque and g forces on tarmac where unbelievable certainly the quickest car I have been in.

You still can't beat the sound of a high revving N/A car with a straight cut box of sequential with flat shift.

26-05-11, 05:51 PM
That makes sense Dayle, I forgot you still need MOT.

And I defiantly agree with your last comment.

I thought a car ran mega rich on anti lag?

If you want a quiet car, then get some modern slow thing. Nova's aren't exactly weighed down with sound proofing anyway, and uprating the engine performance isn't going to shut it up.

Hell I don't even like listening to the radio in my Nova that much, not when I have twin 40's to listen to (when its not in pieces of course...).
