Looking To Run The 15" Sub Of An Amp (-XMD1000P5 In Mind)
Looking To Run The 2* 10" Subs Off An Amp If The Headunit Can Be Bridged .. Or Run The 2 6*9's and 1 sub off an amp and the other sub off the sub out on the headunit
Thinks That It All, If You Don't Understand A Word I've Said Try And Explain It To Me (Just Getting Started With All The ICE Stuff)
Cheerz.

Right, where to start?
First off, I've never seen a headunit with a sub output before, seen plenty with 'low level' output but these are RCA output which can connect to an amp without having to lose your speaker connections, make sure that the 'sub output' is or isn't this as it'll be easier to give advice.
Also, I don't think I've ever seen a headunit that allows you to safely bridge the speaker outputs, just amps.
So, you want a headunit, pair of 6x9's, 15" sub, 2 x 10" subs?
IMO, If you've got a 15" you won't need 2 x 10" subs and visa versa, get one or the other, choose which one suits you musical tastes, I.E 10" subs will produce a more sharper punch than a 15" but the 15" will do the deeper 'rumbles' better than a 10" - horses for courses.
If I were you I'd got for:-
Headunit
Set of componants up front
Small 2 ways in back
2x10" subs or 15" sub in boot
Amp in boot (Which can run all / some of the speakers or just the sub(s) depending on which one you buy).
Personnaly I'd run the componants and sub(s) from the amp and the rear fill 2 ways from the headunit.
Any help?
you can get sub outs from a headunit (common on sony) but they are poo.
Never heard of bridging a head unit either. dont know if it is possible.
Make sure you have an alarm bfore anything goes into your car.

so i'll try and bridge and headunit and hope not to blow it up
So We'll Go For The CD Player Up Front
3-Way Components For The Front [Run Of Headunit]
6*9's for the parcel shelf [run of headunit]
2 10" subs [need an amp powerful enough to power them 300w rated input power] and yeh i'm looking at alarms .. had toad in mind, wanting rcl with it .. any idea's of decent models to get
.David.
i wouldn't even try bridging the head unit, unless you want an in car heater instead of a stereo.
can i ask why you are choosing sony for your set-up?? there are brands that you will pay around the same price for a better quality ov stuff than the sony can ever be,
Dont try and bridge the headunit!!!!!
Just about any 2 10" subs in the boot will loud enough for a nova, as for the amp to power them will depend on the subs that you buy, try and get the most expensive amp that you can afford, nothin worse than underpowering your subs so they sound poo and then die :o

DO NOT BRIDGE THE HEADUNIT WHATEVER YOU DO. Bridgeable amplifiers are designed that way, Headunits aren't. The load across each channel will halve by bridging, driving the amp harder and it will fry. The only ones that can do are made by Pioneer, but the O/P is feeble to run a decent sub.
And yes, why Sony? Check their Technical Spec - S/N ratio on the CD deck - 90dB!! Compared to an Alpine, where even the cheapest unit is 105dB. Of course, if you want a MD changerthen I understand, as you have no choice but go Sony.
Go for Alpine for the rest - It may cost a bit more, but you wont regret it! I never have!

so alpine are the best ?? .. who makes the best 6*9's and 10" subs {price don't really matter that much} also any idea what size the speakers are in the front under my mk1 dash
.david.
I wouldnt say apline were "the best", its all mainly down to personal choice, i had a alpine headunit in my car when i bought it but didnt like it so i swaped it for a Pioneer one, which in my opinion is much much better!!
Again nobody will make the perfect 6*9's or sub its all down to cost, music taste etc, the best thing to do is go down to ur local ice place and ask to hear every thing in ur price range, then make up ur mind from that
You would be better puttin a set ov 6" components in the door as opposed to repalcing the dash speakers

Yeah, its all up to personal choice - some people swear by kenwood, others by pioneer, me, by Alpine. Personally, I have never been disappointed with Alpine, but it all depends what you want.
Dont go for Sony though - they are built to a cost - and you wont get much backup from them. If you are going to use preouts, avoid Panasonic too.

headunits have a 3 - 4v output, there weak. also, at one of the higher comments, why would you want to bridge it? there not like a amp, the speaker wires come out the headunit, so how are you going to bridge it? Alpines have two normal pre-outs, and a special pair of sub ones, wheras most headunits just have a pair of them.

I agree with most things here but wouldn't mind adding a few things.
If you can find an Alpine headunit and changer that can give you all the features that you want then definately go for one of those.
Dont bother using 6x9's either unless they are either built into the rear quarter panels or boxed in on the shelf. The reason for this is that the air movement from the sub will make the 6x9's flap and distort the sound.
Try not to use any Sony equipment if you can help it as it is notoriously bad...except for some of the old headunits that you can't buy any more.

Good point - Sony did used to make excellent headunits once upon a time. Those days are long long gone though.

I reckon it will be a while before we see any improvements too judging by the crap they have released this year.
