Sent v5 to dvla to change engine number etc and got v5 back to day with no changes what so ever
when i phoned to see why they said i had to
1- have letter from were i bought engine (over 6 years ago) with engine code and engine size on it
2- have to have letter from garage that converted it with engine code and size on it (converted it myself)
3- have inspection report from aa or rac
has anybody else had this before and what did you do about it
cheers
Yes.
Had the car checked out by a garage and a confirmation letter written, sent that off with the V5 and it was fine.

But what about the receipt of purchase?

use your imagination ;)
I'll ignore that you winked at me whilst saying that lol

Didn't need one, they only need either or in terms of evidence - the person on the phone didn't know what they were talking about it seems (quel suprise with the DVLA!) lol

i got a headed bit of paper from a garage and wrote it myself, took it in with my logbook and it came back about 3-4 weeks later. it had the car reg, engine no and cc on it.
As above, just a headed letter from a garage is fine confirming engine number and size/fuel type and reg

Go to your local DVLA office with the logbook, engineer's report and the difference in tax...far less hassle and guaranteed to get it sorted

all the other times ive changed engines ive never had this much hassle
all the other times ive changed engines ive never had this much hassle
Does seem a little strange as you wouldve thought they would want people to register engine changes and have the info on their databases be as accurate as possible so in which case why not make it easier to do and you may find less people run illegal/undeclared conversions:wtf:
here we have a government hellbent on catching tax dodgers and benefit cheats, yet people are sending off conversions and are being fukked around.
Retards.
Just remember the DVLA are staffed by civil servants, and the guys handling this kinda stuff will be E1-E2 level - so have all the intelligence of unevolved pond life.
They're SUPPOSED to ask for evidence, but as to whether the monkey in the office who opens the letter remembers to do his/her job right that day (probability: low, as "doing job right" isn't in their terms and conditions) is the unknown factor.
Anyways, that aside, you should be sending evidence with the conversion, they publicise that. So you can't really moan if you don't send it and get a letter back saying "sod off" lol :p

F**k them. Keep it as a 1.2 on the book and pay the cnuts as little as possible. Obviously tell your insurance of every modification but when these gimps make no effort whatsoever to help you help them, they can stick their taxes and fines up their holes.
Can you tell I've just had to pay £113 arrears and penalty due to the dvla and the previous owner of my cars complete and utter balls up with the v5. Then they sting me for the arrears when the car wasn't on the cnuting road for 2 months when the tax was up and I was waiting on the v5 to tax it, after I was told I was unable to sorn it.CNUTS.
The above statement is obviously in jest, and neither I, nor pngclub, promote car tax evasion of any kind.
But I think it is part of the job description to work within the licensing division to be completely funking useless, no matter what your quandary regarding giving them money.

speak of the devil, i got a letter from the dvla today with a second logbook, they asked me to send mine back as they had put the wrong engine number on the logbook.....???? lol
in my limited dealings with the dvla offices, i've found them to be fair, and the offices are not far for most people... but phoning them, never again!!!!!!!

That pic isn't from bad Boys though. lol Blue Streak?
As for pesky letters like the DVLA are asking for [Brian Potter]it's amazing what you can do with a computer and access to t'tinternet.[Brian Potter]
Failing that (never has though!) I have a service stamp from a main dealers which is quite handy for authenticating paperwork. lol

when i phone the dvla they said to send it straight to them as it has been allocated to someone to deal with asap and address etc on envolope says it is to got to this person, they said if i was to go by my local office that it would be sent to dvla swansea
i need it sorted to mot it and tax it
Just mot it with whatever is on the logbook, its not part of the test. Then tax it like normal until the pull their heads out of the arses, should get at least a year cheaper tax this way!

trust me on this... you go to the office, you sit there for a bit, you see the person at the window, and you leave about 10 mins later all legal. ok, you take everything with you that you could possible need, as in money, documents, packed lunch etc, but it is done there and then.
or you post it to the swansea person so they get a productivity bonus...
