hello, i have heard you change 4 speed in to a 5 speed by shoterning the plastic lug on the shifter is this true. i have had a look at the gear box and it is marked with 5 gear. has any one done this before or has anyone got pictures.

thanks for looking

What engine and gearbox have you got mate?

You chop the white plastic lug off at the base of the gearstick if the car originally had 4 gears.

Just trim it so the gearstick notch so it can engage 5th.
And Doubt it has 5th tbf, my old f10 4 speed had that stamp on it, and was still a 4 speed. Worth ago i suppose, although f10 5 speeds are not difficult to source if it turns out to be a 4 speed still

If it's the standard box it won't be a 5 speed my 1.0 box had 5 gears on the top of it too but really only had 4

If you change to a 5 speed box you need to cut ymthe White lug off the gearstick at the bottom of it

You also have to change the turret part on top of the box for the one off the 5 speed box

I tried to use my one from the 1.0 but could not get 5th

As above but it depends on what year it is imo as the two ive had both a J + K reg have never needed the lug chopping off if its earlier then it may well do.

Again, just cos 5th is cast onto the casing doesn't mean its in there ;)

1. it will be a 4 speed.
2. don't think gm would be stupid enough to put a 5th gear in there & blank it off
3. find whoever told you such rubbish & throw them into some nettles
4. buy a 5 speed close ratio box from a gte or similar f13cr, and make sure you have the correct shifter box with it, fit it, then modify the lug on the gearstick

I have a 5Sp CR cluster for sale PM if that is any use. You can change them in well under an hour.

You actually NEED to modify/chop the lug on the stick as i never did with my old 1.2 spi, me and Andy swapped the box in it to a five speed one and if you engage fifth the same way you do reverse, it went straight in no messing:p

The white lug isn't magic so by cutting it off won't make 5th appear, also removing the clutch peddle won't make it automatic lol

You sure? I heard by painting the cam cover red on the 12ST Engine you get an extra 100bhp as you convert it to redtop?
