wtf are those sponsor crap things that come up inbetween posts! is it mig or autotrader?

mowgli
12-05-11, 12:44 PM
will it become SIGWEB???

from reading about it, people are making a business of running forums, and the ads will be a slippery slope......

i'm sure that somewhere along the way, png must have some form of corporate identity, but i can't imagine its big enough for someone to buy into..

how big is migweb compared to png??

GRUNT 16V
12-05-11, 12:45 PM
oooooo

Edd
12-05-11, 12:49 PM
If someone has purchased MIGWEB as a business then you'll soon have one post per page with the rest advertising

I really really hope that PNG never goes that way

Pancho
12-05-11, 12:50 PM
same guy owns a few forums inc allcorsa, which isnt big. mowgli, anythigns big enough to buy if there is profit....

mowgli
12-05-11, 12:50 PM
who'd have us??

wwmnw
12-05-11, 12:51 PM
Mike was talking about selling it years ago so its no surprise.

Edit: It'll probably change hands again in sometime in the near future

As for what made me want to purchase?
Forums are a business for me, and I have always been sort of a petrolhead and always had an interest in Vauxhalls. Always going on forums let me into what I do and led me here. If I did buy one, I would want a Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst. I currently own an Evo with previously owning VWs
Forums are a business for him, he loves Vauxhall's, but no mention of ever owning one. Well I've only read the first page so far lol

mowgli
12-05-11, 12:54 PM
i've never understood mig... it appears to be a club that was set up by 3 lads so they could chat to each other, then ended up being the all vauxhall club..

the adverts are only there for the non paid members. neat tool to use.

not sure what i think on the subject. obs he buys forums, as they are a business for him, it must have forms of creating revenue. he mentioned google adsense, this can create alot of revenue, through pay per click and some other tools.

good luck to him.

wwmnw
12-05-11, 01:27 PM
Yeah he says the adverts create revenue to pay for the hosting etc.

I thought the VBOA said no to any club that had a profit making side...?

mowgli
12-05-11, 01:34 PM
just wait for the mig forum rules to contain all sorts of amendments to do with commercial interests etc.... it will have to happen... somebody saying xxxxx is rubbish etc... then reg & al threaten to sue the website etc... or have they stopped that sort of thing?

ryansnova
12-05-11, 01:35 PM
the way i see it all money going to this new giy that has got the form should go strate back into the club for stans at shows and stuff like that it should NOT be a business lol lol

please never sell png :(

mowgli
12-05-11, 01:40 PM

the concept is that a club puts its funds back in to help the members, which is standard practice with PNG, it goes on food & teabags etc..for the events.. i'm guessing the forum hosting will manage to be fudged for tax purposes & the host will be making the money.

Jack

Not sure what you mean by that? We pay a hosting company to provide server space, availability and physical management.

Obviously I can't predict every possible eventuality in the future, but I can confidently say that PNG is not run as a profit-making business and we have no intention of selling it.

Our primary sources of income are membership and sponsor fees; any "profit" we make on these stay on the club balance sheets and are used to service or better the club (e.g. website hosting, corporate insurance, club merchandise, event logisitics and equipment - such as gazebos - etc).

The only advert banner you see on here is the one at the top of the forum, and thats only available to registered site sponsors. That way we're able to control what little advertising we do have to that which will be appropriate to our members.

Thanks to the strength of our membership (thats you boys and girls), we're able to maintain a good quality of service back to you guys without having to rely on advertising to fill in gaps and recycle any and all monies back into club improvements.

I'm pretty sure that is exactly the sentiment that those asking questions on Mig want to hear. Doubt they ever will.

Lewis.
12-05-11, 04:46 PM
MIG lost its appeal for me ages ago. its just swarming with n00bs asking stupid questions. also, the need for advertising on MIG is clear to see. read any thread, and note the number of site users on there, compared to club members. they are almost all blue font scum, whereas on here the vast majority of actice users are paid up. IMO, if you like a site, and want it to prosper, then join the club :thumb:

i was speculating about how migweb would exist as a club 'owned' by a web forum company, and not png, what i was getting at was that they would manage to work their accounts so there was no profit made, to satisfy vboa rules.

i know that png works from a shoebox under someones bed....

Really simply Mowgli.

The website has been sold.

The club - MIG Club (VBOA member has not).

It's not rocket science is it.

why did this bloke even bother appearing on the forum & telling them if it hasn't altered the club in any way???

What better way to buy than a copious list of 17-40year old petrol heads details.... It happened on the VX220 forum, one day the goon that owned it said "oh by the way the site has been sold to this company", and since that day I've had substantially more advert spam to gmail containing my name in the text etc, and funnily enough the spam has been aimed at kinda mid market 'stuff' like cars/electicals.

With the right forum and a userbase that is well rooted so wont move even thought they hate it, someone can make a **** load of money from them :(

Southie

i was thinking thousands, sometimes when i used to google for png, it would come up with generic "pngclub.com is worth xxxx" and that was like 2k or something and mig is bigger then png lol.

edit - interesting after avery simple google search

This club doesn't have an 'owner', doesn't generate revenue for anyone, and while the memberships are coming in, doesn't need to advertise crap all over the place.

And that is how it will stay.

As said, the club hasn't been touched. Its only the site.
Any money that has been made will be plumbed back in to the club, so its kinda good really.

We've been told there wont be to many adds on the site.. I logged out to see what the score was...

I heard years ago it was THE Vauxhall site to be on, good craic etc so when people say its ****e I imagine its the old skoolers who remember how it was.

Used to be a good site when there were actually new posts to read everyday but now no-one seems to post, except in off topic which I never read anyway. Doesn't seem so much of an interest in cars or "autos" on there anymore.

Can't remember the last time I logged in tbh, keep getting emails telling me I have pm's, being spammed by the Regional Coordinator even though I'm not a member.
