Anyone any ideas on what the red wire in the picture is for?

Can't get the side/tail lights working on the TD, and found this while investigating!

Also where should the left hand side tail/side lights be earthed?

Cheers

Adrian

yeah coming out of standard loom. the car seems to have had a towbar at some point, so it probably has something to do with that, but just want to mae sure!

ive just looked on my TD on that part of the loom and theres nothing out of the ordinary nor your red wire, which, if it was for a tow bar, seems fairly thin on the guage side!

it does look to be part of the car loom? wipers/washer working ok so not it, and all wires are going to bulb holder?

Probably the beeper wire for the tow hitch, the one that gives an audible sound when you indicate?

Iirc the red wire on the passenger side is for the boot light, maybe some one has used it for something else at one point and the rear lights are earthed to the body near where the number plate wire pass through near to the boot latch pin

Any red wire on a nova is a permanent live and then the switching is done on the ground/negative either buy a switch on the tailgate strut on a hatch or a spring switch on the nearside boot hinge on a saloon

Pity I didn't keep an old interior light, could have made it a luxury Nova!!!

Do all the rear lights use the same earth point, or is there a seperate right and left? Right hand side works fine on mine, and only have a brake light on left. Front left hand side light keeps blowing too! Any ideas?

amggsi, not being funny but you've plenty of Nova's surely you could whip a rear lens out of another Nova and compare notes lol

Put the ignition on and put the hazard son, what happens? do they all work fine or do the rear lights do a disco dance? Walk around the WHOLE car and check them, also press the rbake pedal with the ignition on, what happens ALL the way round the car?

(*sleves rolled up)

right... lets start from the beginning then

i assume you have checked the obvious, fuses, headlight switch etc??

if you turn your headlight switch on does your front sidelights and dash illumination all come on?

Done that, had a disco for a short while, then all indicatos started working properlly! So now have fully working indicators, but no tail light on left hand side, or fog light.

@bubba, will make no difference if it's cut since it isn't connected to anything!

Got it sorted, had a 7.5 amp fuse instead of a 10, replaced it and everything works as it should.
