NovaStyle: Engine Bay Update (pics)

I know my engine bay was a mess before, see pics below with the paint on... bumpy weld etc.
Now, however, I'm on my 3rd Angle Grinder (in 2 days!! Power Performance from B&Q), and grafted over the weekend to remedy the bay... I've still got abit more grinding to do (with the additional weld that was done) and then sanding and some other finishing.

Now:
Angle Grinded the bumpy weld off, added more weld on other side of turret (still to be sanded), and the bulkhead.

might be an idea to put filler on b4 the paint to get it really smooth?

iv got some self leveling epoxy resin i was gonna try (dad uses it to cover radio controled model jets) might be worth a play witjh at some point :)

Someones been busy. Mines in the exact same condition, Im in the process of smoothing over the welds with filler. Its a long old job isn't it.

I should hopefully have pictures of my engine bay in primer by the end of the week. Its smoother than a babys arse! :D

All these smoothed Bays......

They'll look the nuts but isn't there a big risk of the filler cracking? How much movement do you get between turrets ect? Specially with XE lumps ect ????

Always fancied smoothing a bay but i drive Novas hard n would'nt want to risk cracking it all ect

Wouldnt it be better just to tidy it up with some seam sealer rather than filler it.

I was thinking of using "ACRYLON"
better than normal filler.

Look at the pic where that long plate is welded ...and the one above it, where it was a mess because of the seam sealer!!!

The paint also flakes off of seam sealer, doesnt it??

On the Nova, the heater matrix pipe is the one right in the middle of the below pic, isn't it?? Do I leave about an inch on there?

Section 20 on the Braking System in the Haynes Manual, says to undo everything...which I have, including the Clewis Clip (or whatever) and bolt inside the car nr passenger side... (pic below)

I dunno how to get the whole backing plate off, so was just gonna take the vacuum servo off (round thing) and fold the insulation back, and then weld along the bulkhead/inner wing joins there

the hose in the center of that image is the heatermatrix outlet and the one to the left of it is the heatermatrix inlet - why it has green shit in it ive no idea

Those bolts are undone, but it isnt moving.
Whats the point in taking off the clip and bolt from within the car (last pic)?

So its only the inlet one that needs to be cut down for the 2L 16v XE engine??

the pin inside is becasue the servo goes right thru inside the car

it should just pull off - cat see why it not

All screws are off. I've tried to jig it around too, put wd40 on, but it wont budge.

i can't remember how i did mine, think i undid all the bolts (4) and pulled out a clip with a pair of pliers then it just pulls out

Sid the best thing to to to get clearence on that heater matrix pipe is to leave half inch out of the bulkhead and push the rubber grommit through behind it, so that you can push the rubber pipe further back over it.Use a longer than standard pipe aswell as its tight. Thanx for the box mate :)

ref filler ofn the suspension posts - dont use it - use lots and lots or grey stripe - excellent stuff - it seals the seams and can be overpainted - need to paint it on so prob best on the actual edges of the metal joins - not sure amout covering the entire turret though - its flexible mind.
