Hi.
After reading 1.4 tuning guide it is suggested that 1.2 head is good to use on a 1.4 engine. However after much deliberation and saving I have decided I would like to get some head work done for my car. I saw a mint 1.4 head at a local engine rebuild shop and I was wondering how much and where to get it done. Should I get 1.2 head machined or 1.4? What type of work do I need to get it done, I really have no idea? Ben said to me MC or CP had lots of experience in this dept? Is Mr.Byldenstein the best person to sent it to or is there anyone else? How much performance increase will I get against mpg loss?
Thanks again
Matt :D :D :D
a beter head will increase MPGs, as lonmg as ur n0ot thrashing it all the time. unless ur planing other mods such as twin 40s i wouldnt recomend spending much on the head, and to go for a 1.2 head then spend your money on other mods!!

Matt's main problems are he uses the car daily to go to work and back, its quite a drive too, he used to have twin 40's but was using far too much fuel so has had to look at other options.
Basically he just wants the quickest acceleration he can from the 1.4
mild working of a 1.2 head (possibly bigger valves but this isnt cheap, if you want to find out how un cheap that is ask cp, as i wont say)
then a good webber 32/34 or 34/34 (if you can find one)
this should give you a fairly swift 1.4 but keep the economy

I have already got a twin choke webber, but I want more power I just thought the head would be the best place to start. As Ben said I use the car all the time luckily mostly motorway so its not too bad! I just can't leave the thing alone i just feel the head wouldn't need much setting up or maintenance!

if your not wanting to spend hefty $$$$ then get a 1200 carb head and a 1300 manifold for your carb (1.3SR or 1.3Astra)
this will raise the compression to around 10.5:1 if memory serves me right and youll have the better flowing ports etc from the 1200 head
also port out the inlet manifold to carb mounts
the carb holes are much larger than the holes on the manifold so u can use a grinder or summat to cut the holes out to make em fit properly and u'll get a little eek more power ;)
get a nova TD and up the boost :)
