View Full Version : Council question
Rite, I moved into my own place last September.
It's like a house converted into flats with a shared back garden etc etc.
My problem is that the back garden is next to a public alley way.
There's a fence there but it's the crappy mesh one.
To get to the point, can I ask the council to put up a fence? I know a few years back they'd put up 6ft panel fences but do they still do it?
I hate using the back garden due to every single person that walks past stares at you as if your leila from futurama.....
I pay the rent/council tax etc. I don't get help with any of that so i reckon it should help me out a bit.
Anyone know the R&R's? Or previous experience?

cant see the council doing it unless its a council property, fences and upkeep of them are down to the property owner.
you will have to speak to your housing office & see what the score is. tell them that you are getting lots of littering, maybe a 'theft' or vandalism attempt might sway their decision. but a fence is pretty much all they are required to have, and if its mesh, its still a fence.

leicestershire has loads of these maisonette type places, and most only have a 3' fence.
It is a council property sorry.
The thing is the fence has been played with so much it's bent everywere due to kids playin on it etc,
Constantly fag packets in the garden...
I keep ontop of maintaining the garden to stop complaints but it's just more hassle for me for sayin I can't use it...
leila from futurama.....

I've got a feelin it will be a straight no due to the government cuts but as you say no harm...

Erm county/city council but local office.
For example I would go to the council office in nearest town Morley, but its a branch for Leeds City Council
Hope this helps lol

well, i assume you rent off charnwood, so look on your rental contract, there'll be a number for your housing office.
Thanks Rich and Mike I'll nip to my local one on Monday, it's only across from work so it's my closest one.
I wish I never mentioned futurama now lol
have a bbq but do it bollock naked lol and just smile and wave at passing people.
bubba, that sort of thing might be acceptable in your part of the world, but you would get the crap kicked out of you it you tried it up here....
my backup idea was a fortified bunker lol
seriously though, if the fence is bent/damaged should they not replace it?
the fence is usually 3' high & mesh with concrete posts. its a fence that rarely breaks....
