I ordered a new coil from my local parts place for the Nova, collected it today and it visually appears wrong, they double checked the system and it's what is listed though?

The car is a 89 1.2 merit (carb), and the Coil at the moment looks the same, but the connectors are 2 prongs each side (4 in total), whereas this one is different?

Apologies for the poor photo, taken on my iPhone:

/edit:

Current (broken) one looks like this:

just use a small pointy thing & remove your spade terminals from the original connector & then connect them up to the new one.. it should work fine.

Don't quite get what you mean,

The wiring has the 2 connectors, which connect to the prongs on the old coil. Whereas this new one has one set of prongs, and a protruding metal bar type plug.

/edit.

Old one looks exactly like this:

note the terminals are all spades, and the main lead plugs "onto" the coil, rather than into it...

Looking again, it's identical to the Pre-1990 Astra and Cav coil:

you need an intermotor 12202. it is the delco type. i assume you have a massive black dizzy cap held on with 2 screws?

Yeah, totally standard 1.2

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to mowgli again.

Had a look at your online catalogues thread,

found these part numbers which match everything correctly:

Delco3474232
Delco3474282
LucasDLB703
Opel1208048
Valeo245043
Valeo2526050
ValeoCD339

Went back to the parts dealer and tried them, all were discontinued stock apart from one Valeo one, looking at the display image of it, it visually looks correct so should be onto a winner. Just waiting for it to come down from up country now (expecting it to arrive tommorow PM).

Many Thanks :)

its getting tougher to find a parts man who can remember these cars... a carb nova is 19+ years old...

I'm quite lucky with the fact the first time I went in there for a Nova part, one of the guys at the counter (50 odd year old guy) asked if it's for my car, then wanted to come have a look at it.

Turned out he was really into them when he was a bit younger, had several Sports and countless other types, literally knows them inside out and has proved very useful there. He just wasn't in on this occasion.

I have a feeling the one with the 4 spades is for a 12ST and the one with the 2 spades is for a 12NV... I'm certain I remember my old 12NV coil only having two spades on it.

Mine has 4 spades, in which there's 2 plugs on the wiring end, one plug per 2 spades :)

The catalogue here: http://www.intermotor.co.uk if you search by Vehicle>Engine>12NV>VAUXHALL Nova 1.2 12NV 08-1987 03-1993 and go down to Ignition coil 12202 (as mowgli posted) it's identical to my current one on the car, and the additional part numbers on there matched image wise on my local parts dealers systems too :)
