Right, I need a new top alternator mount after fitting my new Denso alt., but don't want to pay SBD's price's!

I was think of left & right handed joints, with a length of threaded bar to join.

These : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M6-Female-Rose-Joint-Bronze-Lined-LH-Thread-Rod-End-/190250236314?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c4bcc399a

Then is it just a case of a lock-nut below each joint to stop them from moving?

Also, are half nuts really needed? Or will normal nuts be ok?

I saw that Mr Mowgli, but its seemed a little bit more complicated, as they say it adjusts 100mm - 130mm, but is that from the centre of the eyelets, total length or just the actual bar? (the rose joints are sold separate from the bar)

Thinking about it, my original idea isn't much use as a can't adjust the overall length (to tighten the belt) with it all connected as the threaded bar is all right-hand thread, not right and left...

what you need is some better flats or a decent nut shape to the main rod, middle part - then it can be adjusted.

But if the bar is the same right hand thread (as in my original post) then all you will be doing is moving the bar up and down in the joints, not actually lengthening it.

I'm gonna order one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Turnbuckle-M8-Link-Adjustable-140-mm-170-mm-/160417104472?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item25599ac258) and a left & right eyelet to match, £15 delivered...

The turnbuckle linked states it has right and left threads.

Essentially it's just the central (internally) threaded section that needs to be made/custom.

have a word with a machinist & see what they would want to turn something up out of stainless or whatever, though you will need the exact thread sizes for them to tap or they'll just laugh you out of their workshop...
