As above, thanks

yep should be.

Are 8vs also on 256mm brakes?

BUGGER if they are lol

Yep they are, my GLS had 256 ATE's so I put them on a Nova van.

Christ, theres 3 or 4 in the local scrappers.

"Goes off to rape them" lol

Brilliant big help fellas thanks. My standard 1.2 brakes are shocking, so need an upgrade. Another quick question, as I'm upgrading to 256mm brakes, do I need to upgrade the servo or would my standard 1.2 be sufficient?

servo isn't what pushes the fluid through it's the master cylinder, and your standard one will be fine.

Only really notice a longer pedal on 288mm setups that have the larger piston in rather than the 52 or 53mm (I forget) piston, which are technically 284mm setups but who gets out the verniers for brake discs that basically come in sizes small medium big and huge?

What about smaller engined cav's? I take it they would be different to the 2.0 8 and 16v brakes?

Most likely 236mm solids/vented, purely guessing though to be quite honest

2.0 calibra brakes the same?

Well, 2.0 8v's and 2.0 16v's have 256mm brakes... so what kind of crazy 2.0 calibra have you found that doesn't fit in those 2 categories? lol

ditto, tbh there needed espesh if your on a Isuzu lump with plenty of boost and a ton of tools in the boot for ballast lol

Lol cheers just want to be sure, I'm getting some off a 2.0 calibra now.

54mm, near as damnit. The larger one is 57mm.

The 4WD and FWD cars have different calipers but I believe still take the same discs.

As for cavs; 1.4/1.6 up to 92 they had 236mm solid discs, after that they had either 236mm or 256mm, both x20 and vented. 1.8s had 236 solid up to 92, then 256x20 vented, and some later ones had 256x24mm vented

4wd would be the turbo, so the 54mm piston calipers, could have sworn it was either 52 or 53 though lol

They did N/A 4WD calibras and cavaliers :p They have a 54mm caliper (the FWD is 52mm) - not to be confused with teh V6 caliper, thats 53.9mm lol

Not sure if the mounting points are different on the 4WD one mind...

[edit] Calibra turbo (and I assume cav turbo) has the same calipers as the V6 apparently; so again different to the N/A and 4WD variants

Calibra turbo 4wd should be the 284mm with the smaller piston, if V6 is 54mm (I thought it was 57 tbh) then I'd be right in saying it's 52 or 53mm?

Turbo's have similar calipers but the smaller pistons as above afaik.

Heres a list of what the 256x24s were fitted to..

Turbo has 284 (53.9mm) and 288 (57mm), same as the V6s. FWD N/A 4cyl have the 52 or 54mm calipers. 4WD N/A 4cyl has 54mm calipers.

Ah I hadn't heard of 284mm on a v6, they're normally referred to as turbo calipers.

ive fallen victim to the plethora of options/types of cav/cali brake calipers this week myself..
Does anyone know if the 3 digit large-ish number stamped on all these ATE calipers has any meaning to the type it is or just batch numbers perhaps..?

I know one of the numbers is the piston size as it's the only way to tell the 'turbo' and 'V6' brakes apart, although according to RJ they both come on both cars lol

well seems a bit sod laws with these numbers i think.. just to give an idea; my original 256 ate's have 977 stamped on them. The vent/hole above the piston is like an 'I' shape. The incorrect ones ive been sent (i think are 236mm) have 872 stamped on them; and have a 'V' shape hole.
Another pair im due to collect have come off a redtop xe calibra, have a 'V' shape and stamped 976..

If you're due to collect them, take a hub along and see if a 256 disc fits?

Nope, they are different to look at. You can tell which is which by the design of the caliper, position of the bleed nipple (snigger) etc, markings on it. Thats just V6/Turbo calipers though... I'm sure the others are different too, I've just not studied them in as much depth, appearance-wise lol

The spare ATE calipers I have at the mo have 977 stamped on them as well btw.

[edit] Peester, if they're from a FWD XE Calibra they should be the 977 stamped ones as well. There should also be a 52/24 stamp on there - 52mm piston, 24mm disc

ok jack, thanks - the pic of them deffo shows 976 or maybe 78 - but its not another 7.. and they have the Vee instead of the straight line gap at the top. Oh well we'll see.
