Hey guys,

ok, fitted an XE today out of a calibra, we drove the calibra back and it was sweet as a nut. no knocks, no taps etc etc.

put it into the corsa today, changed over the inlet, and kept EVERYTHING else of the calibra.

started it today, it started fine for about ten seconds and then discovered this noise.

happily ticks over and revs as you can hear.

any help please guys.

Can an injector make a noise that loud?

So you've just fitted the block and head out of the calibra and used all the parts off the corsa? What went wrong with the old engine?

Diesel powah!

Oil pressure would be first on my list

Check all gaskets etc, some times if they are duff you can hear the valves much more distintive etc

Pull plugs, Make sure they are in-tact.

Thats tappet rattle, you have an oil starvation problem, or the oil hasnt got to the top end/tappets after draining, and there seems a lot of induction noise, you using an empty airbox?

Ok thanks guys. The corsa engine we just used inlet and exhaust. Didn't even open the calibra engine.

Old engine. Hole in block.
Plugs done.
And my mate topped it up with some 50w15. Would that cause that much noise. We are doing an oil change soon so should eliminate that.

Thanks guys. Any more ideas

Also we cranked it over with out the rocker and plugs and can't hear it.

Spud. I noticed the induction noise. Has an air icon with filter. Not holey

you have good oil pressure?

The light goes out on dash. Any other way of telling.

Light means fook all really, it goes out at like 5psi pressure or something silly low. Need a gauge on there.

So corsa was fine before, youve just swapped a good engine into it, using the corsa inlet etc, and its now running sounding like that?

By the sounds of that its not running on all 4 cylinders either, You had the rocker cover off to inspect yet, It might be the lifters but hard to tell from a video, has it got good compression on all 4?

how long did the engine stand between removing from calibra and fitting to corsa?

Corsa was fooked. Engine was knackered.
Rocker cover off numerous times
And engine sat for maybe a day if that.

Changing oil tomorrow to see what it does.

Did you check the inlet side was clean whilst fitting? Nothing blocking the exhaust side?

Everything was fine.

Broken?? Sounds like it's starving of oil in head! Oil pump?? oil galleries???

Get a couple of exstension bars put 1 end on engine and other to your ear you will hear whAt is going on inside and you should pin point where the noise is give you more of an idea.

I'd check the rocker cover rubber, it doesn't have to leak oil for it not to seal properly. For the effort it takes to remove it, it's worth having a look under it anyway.

Edit - it's obviously something you've done, as like you said, it was fine in the donor. I very much doubt it would be lack of oil, if that was the case, remove the rocker cover and pour a load of oil all over the cam assembly, but I can garentee it will still tap.

I am gonna go for something foreign dropping down inside when you swapped inlets....

Doesnt sound like its running on all 4 and misfiring, could be related issue.

Any fault codes?

well. its all fixed.

spudly was correct. it was the oil we used to top up. was to thick. so today it was drained, flushed and refilled with 10w40. runs nice now

i now know the importance of using the right oil lol
