Skip the OE plastic tank crap, and get a decent alloy one.

paddy quinn
27-04-11, 05:07 PM
would need modded rad pipes

General Baxter
27-04-11, 05:07 PM
if you fit a 1.5/17 n/a inlet, it makes it much easer to do the pipe work

lmao of my poor attempt at pipe work

first cut the sides off the front panel
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a191/baxters83/IM000364-1.jpg

then cut a hole in the inner arch to run upto the inlet

im running 20psi on a quarter turn of fuel at the mo

General Baxter
27-04-11, 05:14 PM
on a 1.5?

paddy quinn
27-04-11, 05:15 PM
yes i have the 1.7 turbo on it and ive also done a bit of porting work to the head and im guessing 20psi as the charge air saftey valve opens at 18psi

General Baxter
27-04-11, 05:18 PM
right put the 1.5 turbo back on it, the 1.7 one will only produce lag, the 1.5 IHI turbo is fine for 20psi,

remove the saftey valve, and blank it over,

fit a std 1.7 vauxhall intercooler, before you blow the thing up with high boost temp lol

paddy quinn
27-04-11, 05:23 PM
my 1.5 ihi seals are funked

Why the 1.7 turbo though?

Meh it will be fine with 20psi (lol )

And I belive this has been coverd loads of times......there is a lad with a td with intercooler etc in the projects section....using the search before starting loads of allready coverd threads is a good option. Have a look around, you wont be the first to have tried everything.

Big intercooler is good for big boost (more air = more boost = more heat). Big intercooler does = big(ger) lag though.

I meant he would crack the end tanks on a plastic OE job. I has a small alloy one. :)

dont want to go tacking the mounts onto the shell until i have everything back so i can make sure there is room

May get my mate to braze (sp?) some 90 deg bends on it,

And also baxter its not going to be hanging off the front it will all be hidden behind a Gte front bumper cut out slightly

Mine is recessed and the bumper is cut. You could maybe sit it on the front cross member rather than below? Not sure on TD radiator clearance though. Lee has managed to keep the slats in his bumper so best to ask him.

Am running 26psi and mine is fine with a top mount. You can feel a dramatic temperature decrease just touching it!

I didn't want holes in the inner wing or front pannel either.. and baxter what did you do about the header tank? Surely that was in the way!

Nice a simple, but very effective.. remmeber big cooler and pipes = lag tastic!

Problem with a TMIC though is you need a scoop on the bonnet otherwise its more effective in the front.
