nova 1.5 td diesel pump

hi just got this wee car and smoke coming out the back is unreal ! and was wondering does any one know anything about the diesel pumps ?
as i was told that this was screwed out and how to set it back to std ?
any help would be great

easy one this, up the boost to match the fuel, check for boost leaks

turn the max fuel anti clock wise half a turn and see what its like then
