that is all....

only joking. Its my advent 8117 laptop. it died a while ago and i bought a 250gb WD to replace the toshiba 120gb one...and this is what happens when i ling in the recovery cd. If i put in an XP cd to do a fresh install it wont even reconise the HD....even though BIOS does, and i get a smart warning...

HD works fine in a caddy on my flatmates computer

google has lead me to something about slipstreaming but that makes as much sense to me as spelling to teenagers :(

any help or ideas?

If XP isn't recognising the HDD, I assume its a SATA drive..? If so you need to make a driver disk to load when installing XP

OH the blue screen of death! I have had that about 4 times over the last 2 days! I must figure out (insert - get Jack to figure out) why it keeps doing it.
