I did hear skimming was a myth and a waste of time.

However I decided to go against this advice, and had it done for £20 per head.

if it doesn't need skimming, it doesn't need skimming. simple as that, BUT the people who have the measuring tackle just happen to be in the skimming business too..... thus according to them, your head will always need skimming, even though it gets bolted onto a crushable gasket with a force approaching 100t onto the block, and then when it gets heated up it distorts slightly.......

on an 8v gm engine, unless a ring has broken up or a valve broken, it is 99% of the time a waste of money unless you are after an increase in the CR.

paul, ask a real engineer, not a car mechanic what they reckon about head skimming.

and that is all a skim will do, make it shiny.... then you fit it & run it & it gets all mucky again. it seems a lot of money for what you can do with some wire wool & some cleaning chemicals.

you can get them done for about 20 quid.

like i have already stated, they probably just need a good clean up & new bolts.

If there is any slight pitting, (tip of the day) a old school engineer would say rub a bar of soap over the pitting area's, It solves any pitting holes.
