Distributer difference

I got 1.4 SR my distrib is fcuked so me mate gave me his after fitting it and car back firing i realised that mine was a lucas and his was bosch if i put me rota arm on it the dam thing and kick her in the car back fires as timin is out 180 degrees now if i was to buy the rota arm to go on the me new distrib (bosch 1) wud that put timin right or can i just change the leads round any ideas

its strange like i said cos i find when my timing is checked, my mechanics strobe gun reads 180 as if timing is out completely............
