Have the chance to get an ecu (fp code) for my early astra gte with a courtenay group n chip fitted. Has anyone had any experiences with these chips and are they worth bothering with? Read a little about them seem to be a mixed view on them

I am running one on my nova gte engine currently and for me its ok for mid range power but to be honest I'm not overly keen on it.

If it the one i tried, they arn't great for "around town" driving..
Ecu light stays on if you dont start the engine on the first turn too.

the clue is in the name 'Group N' its a rally chip! Why would it be any good for a normal road car? ;) its prob quite good for what it was designed for :)

lol why would they sell it for road cars then? Rally cars are normally better turned and set up than just a chip..

But Group N is literally a standard engine with very limited modifications, rather than an all out fire breathing WRC spec setup...so I can't see it causing many problems with road use

because they can lol my mate has one (not fitted yet) for his rally car, i expect when we start it up it will tickover like a bag of ****e ;) will have reasonable touque mid range and not give much top end. it will be teamed up with a couple of piper cams, F20 and diff. so it should be ok :d

i dont think it would give any problems (road use) but i expect people buy these expecting an extra 20mph to the top speed. rally engines (the way i see it anyway) is all about putting the power down when need most, when trying to get traction out of a tight hairpin or technical gravel section. that why the 2ltr boys shame scoobys from time to time, the scooby was never designed as a drag racer more the opposite :)

I know Benn didnt like it but I ran one fine on my old XE. The engine had a ported & flowed head, courtenay hi-torque cams and when fitting the chip it increased torque by 5lbft across 90% of the rev range.

I'll see if I can find my old graph....

I will also have a standard ecu, could get it and try it I suppose and see I I like it. Would it cause any problems if I change between the 2 depending in what sort of drive im going on? lol
