Bare with me.....

Got a quotation yesterday morning for a car i wanted to go buy which was cheap (£1370).
So i saved the quote went and got the car and put it on day insurance till i got home and double checked the original quote when i got in also.
When i check the quote it was still the same but out of interest i changed the annual mileage to a little higher just to see the difference.
When i did this the price shot up to around £1750 which was too much i tried to change back the mileage to get the original price of £1370 and it wouldn't change.

Today i rang the insurance company and they are saying that their was a glitch on their systems yesterday so if i went to go and buy the original quote via the link on my email it wouldn't work. (i tried and they was correct).

Now they are saying they can't do anything about the change in price other than ask the manager to let the original price go through tomorrow when he's back in but that's very doubtful.

What i want to know is... Don't they HAVE to let me have it at the quotation price i got in the 1st place?

I also gave the lad the login details and he confirmed that the quote was correct when you login to the account.

A bit long winded i know but you get the idea.

Unfortunately a quotation is not necessarily legally binding, so they don't have to honour the price stated.

However, if you have an email that says "your price is £1370", then call them and ask to speak to a supervisor andmoan like hell until they give in lol

[edit] Especially lean on the fact you purchased a car based on their quotation, so are now considerably out of pocket due to their mistake

I do have this email.

They are due to ring me in 20 mins so i'll let you know what they say.

Also my dad is a member of this company for other reasons than car insurance but everything is linked.

He said to tell them if they still being funny about it then to threaten to leave the company.

No, insurers can withdraw a rate if they choose.

What Jack said is true though also.

I did buy the car yesterday based on their price so now if they don't insure me i'm going to be 3k down and no way to drive my car.

We will see what they say.

They won't do anything about it other than give me the compaints department number but then it will take over 5 days for them to get back to me and i bet the chances are cr4p for them to honour that price.

Are there no other companies that will give a competitive quote? You should be entitled to a 14 day grace period to cancel the policy and be refunded. Might be worth taking your business elsewhere, even if its on principle.

Who is the insurance company?

Its unlikely Flux/HIC, PD and Footman James would be competitive on a Vectra tbh

I've taken out the more expensive policy at £1700+ and taken up an official complaint at the same time.

If my complaint is successful i'll get rufunded the difference.

I'm not mentioning any names as i don't think it would be right to be honest.

I'm just happy to be on the road right now!

A trip out to york tomorrow is on the cards aswell :)

Hopefully get some pics finally if it's nice.

And yes i'll be trying to get a cheaper quote within the 14 days. :)

this happened to me through HIC a few years back on a gsi, online the quote said 750 but when i rang to pay it was £1600, the bloke on the phone said there is nothing he can do but if i was to buy it online he could not stop me... I bought it online

they never got back to me about it (maybe thats the reason they dont quote online anymore)
