id replace the pump, and you can undo the 6 torx screws that bolt the auxilary pulley onto the main crank pulley which means you can slide the belt on in place

Replace the pump. £20 piece and will save you the job I've just been doing on my car.

thanks guys, i just realised i have a new water pump on my spare engine so will steal that.

and i was thinking just whip of the main pulley bolt, being one bolt rather then 6 lol. i have a spare if it sheers!

also do i need to put the backing plate back on for the cambelt?

You dont want to undo the main crank bolt - just the 6 torx screws...

Why have you taken the back plate off? Or is that from before?

easier said than done martin matey,i have been known to have to grind the head off the main e20 bolt, remove pulley and then unwind the bolt with my fingers lol they are mega bitches id just remove the 6 torx

You will need to remove the aux pulley to see the timing mark on the crank pulley.

ok guys, i always thought the 6 bolts will be a bitch. i shall see lol.

is it the aux pulley which can only go on one way?

and i also thought the timing mark was on the aux puley where it lines up on the spike on the backing plate...

thanks people.

Yes it only goes on one way and lines up with the pin on the backplate, but I hear it's not a trustworthy way of doing it in case it has moved on the rubber damping ring

ahhh thanks, my aux pulley has a trigger wheel welded on it, so i wont be able to see timing mark anyway.

^this.

The one on my car has slipped approx 6 teeth worth on the aux pulley so when timed up it's miles out with the pin on the backing plate.

i take it you used a top pulley locking thingummy to keep the valves in the right place.

why. the head is off.
when the end pulleys are on the head, and put into their timing position the valves will be correct.

Its poss to get the valves 180 degrees out

Its poss to get the valves 180 degrees out

It's not if all the timing marks are lined up.
