Hi all wonder if you could give me some advice

With having 2 kids i need a bigger daily car so have been looking at vectras (around 800 quid mark)

There are a few about and i'm thinking of getting a diesel as economy is an issue to. Does anyone know what the engines are like?

Anything i should look out for in particular, is high mileage an issue with these?

any help or views would be appreciated.

With vectras, you will usually find a complete shed, or a really well looked after one, i work for vauxhall and its a proper bonus making car lol

But if you find a good one they can be a really nice car. I would try getting a lower milage one, personally. The high milers are usually just run into the ground

Mine is going fine as a family car and been to the moon and back a few times 160k.
Ok its not a diesal but does go well doing around 40mpg on the motorway.

Thats what happens when the cars get run into the ground, they have faults that arent sorted and end up with more and more until they get sold for 200quid or scrapped.

Like an omega at work friday, was checked over for the service and customer had 22hours worth of work to choose from lol

So it does have a problem then.

My brother-in-law has a 2.2DTi Vectra C, has and no end of issues. Along with it visiting limp mode on a regular basis. Only gets around 400miles out of a full tank of diesel.

I picked a Cav over a Vectra as the latter had numerous repports of trouble with the limp mode and diesel pumps

tbh the 1700 vectras are pretty ****e, too heavy and slow, pretty unreliable but the 2.2dti's seem to have a good following no idea on the value of those anymore though.

If you get a vec i wouldnt get a 2.0 eco if fuel consumption bothers you.

Ernie, what engine you got in yours?

Ernie

Mine is a 2ltr Eco and fine on fuel.

What do you get around town?

Mines terrible on fuel imo. £40 (32ish L) takes me about 200miles at best. Sure i worked it out to be mid 20s mpg

Mine is a Vec B 1.8 SXi and does around 40mpg so not too bad on fuel.

Should get a clean c class sport for that money. Automatic is the way to go for a daily.

Auto's are worse for fuel economy as a daily though?? Depending on your run of course, but round the town I'd think it would be sh!t...

this is my dilemma, i actually have a rover 45 1.8 auto cvt bollocks thing at the moment, its 53 plate with leathers etc and it cost me £750. At the time i needed a car there and then, but after having it for 5 months and it costing me £40 to get 150 miles i just cant afford it any longer and need it got rid of so i am gonna part ex it on something but capital is not at its best at the moment.

think i have been put off the veccy well at least the diesels, any non vaux cars people would recommend, i'd happily have a cav but don think the missus will allow it

thanks for all the comments though

Why not go for an astra 1.7CDTI estate?? Should be able to get a half decent one for your budget... And not that much smaller than a veccy

I have a Vectra 1.8sxi as my daily. Isn't the fastest thing by any means but that's not what it's for!! Ok on fuel. Apart from the rear bushes it has never missed a beat. I have the saloon model. Gets a double buggy and other baby related stuff in the boot with ease.

Thinking that an astray mk4 1.4/1.6 may be a better choice
