I am looking for a small van, am pretty set on a MK5 Astra van but they do seem to be holding there value pretty well, anyone got any other recommendations?

Just been looking at a few Fiesta vans but the 1.4 tdci scares me, any gen?

looking for upto a maximum of 4 years old with asfew as miles as possible and creature comforts as i do a lot of miles!

Have you ever driven a caddy? Good vans imo, nippy aswell!

EDIT: only thing I don't like about the caddy is the load area is large but the space is hard to use.....if that makes sence? Curved side panels etc...

I do like the caddy's a lot but tbh i find them very expensive for a van, they hold there value very well and dont think i could get one on my budget with low enough miles.

Fair enough....Its the same problem with me. Not a big fan of "small vans" tbh, so wont be much help!

Yeah i used to have a MK4 Sportive a few years ago and liked all the toys etc you get with it, thats why im looking at the MK5, if i found a late MK4 with VERY low miles i would consider it i think!

Just had a quick look at caddy's and the 69ps version is peanuts but the 140ps version is mega bucks. i dread to think how ****e a VW 70bhp van would be!

Ben you would be surprised, now id never drive the less powerful one but the 140ps ones mapped really really fly! What about the 104?

On the plus side when you come to sell you know it will hold its value..

Still your looking at £1500-2000 more than a Astra 150bhp and its less than £100 to make it 200bhp lol

i posted up a similar thread 12 months ago and ended up buying a vauxhall combo van 07 plate done 50,000 miles from ebay for £2900 ****ing brilliant little van 1.3 cdti went like stink, awsome on fuel 550 + miles on a full tank, fook all on tax ect ect i couldnt fault them !

But as always it just wasnt big enough, i now have a swb semi hi top transit does same on full tank of fuel but cost 2x the price to fill up.

The conclusion i have come to when buying van's everyone has had bad experinces with every van on the market, they all break, buy the one you like and will work the best for you and get one from a genuine seller !!!

old shape caddy.. bombproof 1.9tdi, can be tuned, and they carry a pallet. depends if you want a work vehicle or a car with no back seats.. remember that a lot of later stuff is speed limited.

all vans or cars/derived vans (unless under 2 tonnes) are limited to 50 on a single carriage way 60 on a dual carriage way and 70 on a motor way.

according to the dft (http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/speedmanagement/vanspeedlimits), those little vans, clio/fiesta/corsa that are definitely based on the hatchback shells are still cars...and can run at the higher limits.. the cutoff is 2t laden weight.

Been looking for week but they are all in Addiewell in the north of scotland!

And now i have a week when i home at easter to buy and repair so i am limited.

I hate combo's lol we use them at work and they just grate on my nerves, i dont need to carry much equipment i currently fit eveything i have in the back of a Astra sporthatch but it is slightly too small, as if i need something at the back everything has to come out so i can get to it, there is more room in a corsavan/fiestavan than in my car so i can have just about any van im just very fussy with vans lol cars im not but vans i am,

I have 2006 caddy sdi and its a great van...yes its not the fastest van in the world but it will happily sit a 90 on the motorway etc easily does at least 45mpg and the reason i never bought a tdi is yes they are more expensive and it was easier to find a lower millage clean sdi...also the engine is so simple and you dont get problems with the dmf's and turbos!
