Right i did my head gasket, but wile tightening it back up the 3rd bolt from the back of the head snapped.

(Borin bit)
now ive tried my best to get it out but it seems the bolt has flaired wile it snaped and its getting cought on somthing...

Now am i write in thinking i cant run it like this as it will just go again? and will i have to purchase a new head gasket? or could i use the new one i put on?

its a head off job.

the gasket might survive, but you must never, ever reuse stretch bolts...

if you bought a head gasket set, just re order a head gasket on its own, when you get the new bolts.

i worked at motosave for a brief period,so must mean im a monkey:roll:
by the sound of your nova building buddy it sounds like you need to buy one already built for you,im presuming this is the paintrollered nova you have converted?
buy a haynes manual

buy a haynes manual

or at the very least, asked the question here :(

little wonder the bolt snapped, torque was allmost 6 times what the haynes says

i would consider getting a new gasket as well, the last one will be crushed to death :( oh yes, new bolts ;)

edit to say your tightening method is flawed, tighten from the start with the torque wrench, NOT with a ratchet and finish off the the torque wrench

1.2 to 1.6 engines 25nm then 60 60 60 degrees

1.8 and 2.0 25nm then 90 90 90

the above is for 8v engines dont know 16 valve figures

sequence is

10 - 6 - 2 - 3 - 7

9 - 5 - 1 - 4 - 8
