View Full Version : House burgled today, scumbags!

Lee H
05-04-11, 10:31 PM
Well after a truly awful day at work today and driving home from work thinking things couldn't get any worse they suddenly did when I walked through the front door.

House has been ransacked and loads of personal posessions stolen. Laptop, phone and camera gone so with that all the photos of families and holidays that I won't get to see again now.

They have also stolen the spare keys for my girlfriends car which is going to cost.

Took the window out of the living room in broad daylight and helped themselves.

Its hard to put into words how gutted and upset I feel about it at the moment. You work hard to have nice things but unfortunately certain people can't keep their hands to themselves.

Damn. Feckers.

Thoughts are with you dude, hope you can sort something out.

Bring back capital punishment and cut off the hands of those who are light fingered etc. With todays forensics it's a tad hard to disprove if your fingerprints etc are all over the place.

05-04-11, 10:37 PM
Been waiting for forensics for 6 hours now and the police have been here for two hours but not holding out much hope of finding them. Neighbours either side have been in all day so they must have been quiet.

claire6069
05-04-11, 10:42 PM

05-04-11, 10:43 PM
How did they manage to take the window out? Is the plastic beading on the outside?

Gutting though mate, I hope they find the people and get your stuff back.

Lee H
05-04-11, 10:45 PM
Beading is on the outside so prised it off and took the pane of glass out.

05-04-11, 10:46 PM
Ahh, the window manufacturers clicked on to that one so changed the design to inside later on.

Lee H
05-04-11, 10:48 PM
I believe so. We rent the house so not really in the position to change it all though unfortunately.

05-04-11, 10:51 PM
That's **** news sorry to hear it. Beads on the outside that I've seen have security tape basically double sided tape that holds the glass in. Can you set the car up as a trap then when they come back boom headshot.

Thats crap news lee, my garage got broken into 2 weeks ago whilst i am at uni and my tools and all my jacks and axles stands compressor etc all got stolen, the theives must of been ford fans or something because they moved my set of speedlines out of the way to get to them lol. Hope you catch the theiving fookers :(

Hayley
05-04-11, 11:36 PM
So sorry to hear about this. Thankfully ive never been a victim of this sort of thing but the thought of some of my most treasured possessions being nicked makes me feel sick.

I really hope they find your belongings even if nothing gets done about the offenders. :(

Lee H
05-04-11, 11:45 PM
Have moved the car elsewhere for tonight but that is going to cost a bit to sort out. Forensics can't find anything as they must have worn gloves.

The fact they have emptied every drawer in the bedroom gets me. Is nothing safe or private anymore!

Angus Closier
06-04-11, 12:09 AM
This really sucks mate, As said the objects can be replaced but the photos cant. That really is sick......Its sad that we live in a world like we do.....can only hope what goes around comes around and they get what they deserve.

Lee
06-04-11, 12:43 AM
Is nothing fecking sacred. Its one thing taking electrical high value items, but why steal someones photo album? it will only be thrown away by the lowlife scum.

Thoughts are with you lee

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, thieves are getting less bothered nowadays, luckily you didn't come home whilst they were there, sad about loosing private personal possessions though :(

You say you rent Lee so how do you go about claiming, I hope your Landlord updated his house contents insurance to a good amount ;) Also I'm surprised it's not alarmed as his premium would be cheaper.

All the best to you and your girlfriend Lee.

thats shocking lee. i hope things get better for you.

there are some right scum bags in this world, its always the personel stuff that gets stolen that gets to you, memories lost etc.

Jack
06-04-11, 08:47 AM
Thats crap. Taking items of monetary value is one thing, but taking personal effects like photos etc is scraping the bloody barrel! Some people have no respect.

Has the house been secured? I hope the rental agency got a person out straight away to block up the window and got on top of changing the locks.

NovaLad
06-04-11, 09:02 AM
Gutted for you Lee!

I was going to drive past yesterday and see if you was out tinkering aswell but didn't.

I'll ask around if you give me details of the makes and models of the elecronic bits they took.

Lee H
06-04-11, 09:04 AM
They have boarded the window up. Not changed the locks as no house keys stolen. Thinking of moving now tbh as house just doesnt feel the same now.

06-04-11, 09:08 AM
I know exactly how you feel, this happened to me 10 yrs ago and i was 7 months pregnant (remember it like yesterday), it was only a few weeks before christmas too.
They took everything electrical they could carry, and every single christmas present that was there, including my 3 yrs olds toys.
What was worse they took my jewellry box containing everything, including rings that belonged to my nana who is no longer with us.....

This happened at 5pm and they booted the front door in, neither neighbour heard a thing....
It's the lowest of the low and these fookers don't deserve to breathe, they have no idea how traumatic this is and the after effects it has on people.
I had to move in the end i just couldn't settle.

Hope you get things sorted though.....:)

Sorry to hear this mate! Total oxygen thieves that cannot even contemplate how much this affects good, honest people such as yourself.

I hope at the very least your personal possessions are returned and I second what Olly says, get her car immobilised!

I would be tempted to do exactly as stated earlier on and use the car as a setup if possible. I'm sure you could make them think long and hard about where your belongings are!

I can understand why you feel the need to move now. I have never had this happen to me, but I know I would feel the same. As you said, it seems nothing is sacred anymore! :(

Fooking coonts thieves are !

I also think a set up with the car is a good way to go, might help get your personal stuff back

I was broken into about 5 years ago, home has never felt the same since, glad I'm moving in next few weeks

Police gave me a crime number and said forensics would be there in 2 days and not to touch anything

sorry to hear about your news mate, gutted for you, hope you get it all sorted and hopefully get your bits back, did you have a alarm on it the house

Lee H
06-04-11, 01:15 PM
Her car has key cover on the insurance so it's having all new locks etc over the next few days. Thought about leaving the car as bait but you would get in more trouble than them if you did anything to them (sign of the state of this country).

I think it would take a while for this to feel like home again, was so happy here and never worried about anything like this.

No alarm on house, have asked landlord into looking into fitting one. Also another mess up on out part is no contents insurance so we have to start from scratch again.

Makes me think about getting rid of the cars now as well knowing what sort of people are coming round here.

bai1ey
06-04-11, 01:31 PM
lee i know what your saying about not feeling like home my grandads house got broken into once (we new who had done it ) but that never felt safe again despite alarms and new dead locks and things.

as for leaving the car as bait i had the petrol tank on my vectra drilled a few months back called the rozzers. when they said they couldnt do anything i said i was gonna stay up and wait for them the next time(by this point i had my windows smashed and car keyed previous).

they said if you do anything make sure you put a weapon in there hand then you where only proteching youself. That was fromthe coppers mouth lol.

mowgli
06-04-11, 01:41 PM
a copper advised a friend of mine that if he was carrying an obvious weapon, as in a bat, he'd get done..but if he happened to be doing some repairs & say... had a spanner nearby, then it is classed as not premeditated... so he kept a 2 foot stilson wrench by his bed for the next 5 years......

That's not good either......Was this just an oversight?or is this the first time you've had you own place and didn't realise you needed it?

Contents insurance is the first and foremost important thing when ever you move house.

sorry to hear this....:(

Lee H
06-04-11, 01:49 PM
It's all well and good if you are in the house really but if you are out at work that's when it seems to happen and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it short of quitting work and staying home on benefits...... There's a thought!

First time we have had our own house and we didn't have anything of value when we moved in really so overlooked it. However we have accumulated things over the last two years and something like this makes us realise what we did have!

Really sorry to hear this Lee,thats terrible. They sound like prolific burglars or somebody with upvc window fitting experience if they managed to get the glass out,get some double sided security tape fitted if there isnt already.
I dont think you will ever see your gear again tbh but they will most likely abandon your personal stuff and somebody will hopefully find it.

gutted for you lee we had our house done over 2 years ago house still doesnt feel right to this day

MK999
06-04-11, 03:12 PM
We were burgled a while back, not much of great importance gone though, couple of laptops, mums handbag was found round the corner in a hedge. All photos etc were backed up on a network drive, main thing was the fact someone had been in the house while we were sleeping messed with my mum.

On the contents insurance thing, I think it was Ade that said people always underestimate it, and the average for a small family is something like £75k in contents. Obviously a burglar won't manage to get away with that but when you consider furniture decorations etc it all seems much more believable!

I don't often reply or get too involved when the odd thing gets stolen but breaking into a house and taking everything must be so upsetting :( if it was just the electronics it wouldnt of been so bad, but to take personal belongings just for the hell of it is the worse thing ever! I cant even begin to imagine how annoyed and upset you are at the moment, seemed to be such a nice house that you had aswell.

You just need to move on from it, i wouldnt hold up any hopes in getting anything back, but hopefully il be proved wrong. You just need to try and be positive with your misses about it all and think that a couple of years ago you moved in with nothing so you can do it again, but take extra care this time. Don't let it stop you owning nice things and your cars, things will get sorted out eventually :thumb:

Sorry to hear this mate, what area do you live in?

Oldham.

I want to move house now but the missus doesn't so that's causing problems now. The actions of these mindless pricks causes so many other problems they don't even realise (or care about tbh).

Won't be claiming on insurance as we didn't have any. Can't be bothered replacing anything anyway as will only be worried about it happening again. Just goes to prove the saying that you can't have anything nice if you want to keep it.

Wanted to go and watch the football tonight in the pub but as we can't leave her car at our house until the keys are sorted we can't even do that in peace.

Spent the morning cancelling bank cards, blocking phones and being relieved of £20 for a replacement driving license. Had a councillor ringing from the police to see if I need any help from them, why don't they spend the money they pay these people to put more police out there so they wouldn't be needed in the first place!

Rant over (for now!)

tbh i have no idea, and Ive just had a thought, i only had 3 payments left on it til it was all mine.... I have absoloutly no faith in the police finding who is to blame, all they said was there was a ring a year or so ago where ppl had their cars jacked all the time, but this is the first one that involved a "performance" car in a long while.... so the rule of thumb is to drive fiat 500's as no one is liable to yank you outta them

Gutted for you mate, i assume your on plastic windows that are glazed from the outside ? If so give us a shout and will tell you how to stop it happening again :thumb:

Edit just seen the picture you posted up. The Rubber that is on the inside of your window can be removed and replaced with a glazing tape (double sided sticky foam ) to stop the glass coming out. Its a ******* to get the trims back in again but worth it as they cant take your ****ing glass out :)

i'm a window fitter, i tell people till i'm blue in the face how unsafe they are (external beads).

went to my mums last week and she was 'umming and arring' about getting new windows, so i did little test....how long would it take me to break in.

armed only with a small chisel i was climing into her kitchen in 40 seconds. safe to say shes coughed up and i've fitted the whole house with new windows. i've got it on video but suppose i shouldn't really post it up

Alternatively a brick runs you about 25p if you really wanna go to the lengths of paying for one, any large blunt object to hand is good though lol

get a brick and you're in in 5 seconds. noisy though ;)

and i wouldn't trust the double sided tape either, you can still pull the glass out with the aid of another commanly used glazing tool. i'd go for metal corner brackets, which are riveted in. 2 for each piece of glass, they'd make a fair bit of noise drilling them out

not at all, they will bounce off toughened glass but 90% of houses don't have toughened glass. regulations say you only need toughened if the glass is less than 600mm from the internal floor. anyway, thats irrelevant because hit a toughened unit in the corner and it will shatter.

normal float glass double glazing..a brick will go through no problems at all.

the only brick proof glass is laminated glass, they weigh a fcuking tonne and don't come cheap
