Mate just came down in his Cavalier 1.7TD.
Went outside to start it and engine was very loud, viabrated like a B*tch. Oil level was low
Asked him if he wanted some oil but he had some in the boot. So i looked at it it was PETROL oil. He has already put most the bottle in the system

Is it best to drain the oil out?

well, its nearly 20 years old...... the grade of 'petrol' oil is probably about the same as the stuff they put in it when it was new.... i don't think it will kill it, when did he last service it??? aren't they on 4500 intervals?.
