GM engines tend to give those problems when the crankshaft sensor isnt working properly, does it start ok or take alot of cranking before it goes?

it starts fine and runs ok aswell just as soon as you hit 4.5 k it limits

Cam sensor can cause it, also check your earths. The earth on my corsa to the starter was loose and caused the same problem. Was like hitting a brick wall the first time i planted it!

Have know this be caused by faulty ignition systems in the past....
Lack of revs etc... so if all else fails look at that :D

My Corsa ex early dizzy did this was throttle position sensor unplugged car ran ok just took a little longer for revs to drop.

my xe did this, just like NOVA saloon said
just unplug the throttle position sensor and away you go
although don't expect to be able to engine brake AT ALL :\
