When you take them off does it leave faded paint or not ?

The paint will be darker as its not been in the sun light.

Well my car has been in a heated garage for 6 years and it's White so is it a good idea to do it?

Heat don't really matter, its sunlight that bleaches it. As it's white, you might not see it is much.

White should be fine, took the rub-strips off my white Nova which had been left for years, if anything it was slightly yellow under them.

Couple passes with compound and there was no evidence they were ever there :)
