Sending the saloon for a let conversion next week but I'm unsure of what box to choose??

What's better an f20 or f28? I had the f28 in the corsa c turbo and had no problems with it..

Just wanting some opinions.

F28 if you want it to last.

For anything above standard power it needs a F28

I do want it to last lol but the f20s the easier/cheaper option.. The engine being fitted will be a freshly rebuilt let with an intercooler no mods at all? I might be alright with the f20 and change to the f28 later??

Does the engine eat f20s then? And were they all fitted with f28s as standard?

They were all fited with F28's fella as they were all 6 speed. There is plenty of speculation and stories that LET's munch lesser gearboxes but then again there are people running LETs with F16's down a 1/4 mile. All depends on how strong the F20 is, how it's been looked after, who drove it in it's life time etc.

If you fit the F20 1st then decide you want the F28 then you'll need to mod the n/s chassis mount to fit it.

I'll be using a F20 in my conversion.

Reminds me of the tool in TV with a LET'd Mk2 GTE who had munched about twenty F20s instead of just fitting an F28 lol

We wrecked about 4 or 5 on a phase 3 let but then that was a LONG time ago when people said a F28 didn't fit in a nova so we never even bothered to try to fit one.

You live and learn and if I was to build another for myself it would have a F28

My V6 has eaten three gearboxes and thats similar power/torque figures to a LET. To be fair the current box has held on pretty well though.

So what is first to give up on the boxes? Won't it just be worth getting an uprated version of the part thats prone to failing?

Snapped castings, destroyed the top row, diff whining, noisy bearings, chipped teeth of of fifth, ive done many different things.

Instead of fixing the weak point, just put the proper gearbox on it in short.

PS- dont ask why i replied in two messages like this lol

I'm sure some of the above is down to the driver :p

Probably true that!

So you will spend hundreds if not thousands building a LET and all the necessary parts but skimp on a gearbox for sake of another £200

I've snapped the input shaft on an F20 too.

I know they are simple to change but getting towed home is a pain and trying to find a decent replacement F20 is also difficult now, I've fitted two bad ones bought of forums.

they are all old boxes these days, so unless you are planning a rebuild, then they will knacker up. the f28 costs several grand for a proper rebuild, so you'll be lucky to find a perfect s/hand one.
