I was hoping for a reply along the lines of £x including the programming lol new ecu chip and transponder would be costly brand new.

Youre probably looking in the region of about £80 for a new key plus about £50 for recoding, plus recovery to the stealership unless you know someone with a recovery truck!

iirc audi were £80 to programme and around 20 for the key too

Typical exampe is a Renault Laguna II, £83 for a new keycard and £50 for coding:eek:

Scrapyard will do you no good as you dont need a new ecu, you need a new key + coding!

General Baxter

Wrong, Change the ecu, transpoder and keychip and it will be fine. Your just need to get a lock set then and fit the chip into the key for that.

The ecu on these should be bolted to the inlet in the engine bay.

General Baxter

depends what engine, if its a TD will need the pump coding to the ecu then lol

AlexW

Common as muck then, Find a lock set and matching ECU set.

General Baxter

So, its either pay over £100 to get a key & get it coded or raid a scrap yard for a new ecu transponder etc and lock set?

bazil

if you just get a new coded key, it will be a blank, how will you cut it to the right shape will need a new lock set lol

shall we say it again

I was told £120 previously, Depends if he has the little card thing, Key wont be cheap though, I think even those old keys are about £50, No idea if they would let you do a used key either.

But yes, as baxter says, Your need a new lockset, Which imo, If your changing all that, Just do the extra 10min job of swapping the ecu set.

Looks like a scrap yard would be the best bet then.

i had a new key cut for my zafira, it was a flat type key (not the horseshoe shape to fit a remote keyfob in) Key cost about £18 and £35 to code it in. Every dealer varies though. Just ring em and see what they say before you faff about swapping locksets.

Thought you could buy the blank key and a a second hand remote and transponder chip from somewhere like ebay, and then get it all reprogrammed by someone with Opcom. Or buy a copy of Opcom yourself also off ebay. I looked into it a while back when one of my Astra keys went AWOL.

I'd have a search on Astra Owners Club

you can order a key from vaux pre programmed with the 4 digit id on for iirc around £80
or go scrapyard get a full lockset for peanuts,(providing you have your security card in your documents or history)
