View Full Version : headwork on 8V 1.6
is it worth the cost on a 8V 1.6 with forced induction? i plan on polishing, new valve guides etc but is it worth trying to go for bigger valves?
will it give much of a gain?
its bound to help a bit, but turbos sort of work round the issue by blowing the air in..
thats what i was kind of thinking, maybe just a polish will do,
next item would be crank and flywheel, im thinking of getting them balanced only and not lightened to retain torque levels,
( still learning )

i would speak to philip oh here he is well help full. and also his work is very good and not that expensive.
i've never understood the balancing the flywheel & crank thing.. ok, at 10k+ rpm it could be an issue, but at 6500rpm, which the stock engines rev to doesn't exactly kill the engine, and they run ok, other people have turboed a basically stock engine & had good results straight away.
i did PM steveyboy but got no reply, then about a week later he was banned lol, nobody up here wants to build my spec of engine which is really pish ing me off!
I shall seek him out with a PM
mr steveboyslim was banned off the forum, i don't think pms will work..
i thought he only played with xe/let stuff.....

as i say mowgli, im not scared to admit i know little about turbo conversions, i do know that turbo engines can produce high power at lower revs so if balancing isnt requires it is a welcome bonus, what i dont want is an engine that is all revs and no go
a turbo 1600 will hardly be all rev/no grunt....

ehhhhhhhhhh naw mate its cool lol

chosing the right turbo is the hard part imo.
ok, mowgli i ment i was going to pm philip,
the bottom end spec i want is
E16se block and crank
PEC steel rods and cosworth low comp forged pistons for LEH
so my block needs a 0.5 bore out that should give me a 8.5:1 ratio
my turbo is a T25, borderline for a 1.6 but should see 200bhp ok
cam i have no idea yet and head work will be port and polish.
management will be aftermarket and omex 600 is looking my favorite ATM
othet issues are being looked at but that the outline so far
any suggestions welcome
spec sounds pretty good so far. decent i/c & get it built.

Craig had a Courtenay CS 15 head on his e16se turbo
Ported and polished with enlarged inlet valves iirc, 1.5mm oversize
Made a massive difference
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stop with the YBT lol

As said most aftermarket camshafts are designed for NA applications. You could try speaking to Newman Cams and having a custom cam made, or a reground one.
The main thing with turbo conversions is people use the turbo to create the power...resulting in lag and poor power delivery. It is definitely worth doing extra work on the engine so the boost can be turned down but the same power is made. This will give you a much more responsive engine.
