i would think you could get pretty much the same stuff that was there in the first place, clean up the bump strip and get some double sided sticky foam?

Halfords sell trim tape which is Ok so long as both surfaces (i.e. car and trim) are clean and smooth. They also sell small sheets of sticky pads which I've found to be even stronger but I forget what they're marketed as - IIRC it was something supposedly for use with caravans... either way, they were pretty damned strong. If you find what I'm on about (lol) then it might be worth using a couple of those along with the trim tape.

Pull the metal backing off it first and it will go back into its original shape.
