Hey guys.

i have a 1300cc Nova running on twin 40's rally cam. big valve head etc...

the car is running 133.1bhp with a standard Radiator.
when im on the limit on a rally stage. the cooling system seems to build alot of pressure resulting in a blown top rad hose.
the engine has been checked and there doesnt seem to be no leakage or head gasket problem etc... any ideas to what the problem may be? i was told it may be a incorrect Coolant Bottle Cap ?

all comments and suggestions welcomed

Thanks.:thumb:

Thats probably a good call, header tank caps do have a pressure release valve on them, and should release any pent up pressure before a hose can blow off

get a better radiator (aluminium dual core) and better fans to cool it with! and change the cap it can help. But flush the system to and possible new water pump and just keep the thermostat constantly out.

like he said ^ :) or you could keep the thermostst (with a small hole drilled in the edge) i assume you have the fan wired up to a switch so you can turn the fan on manually at the start of a stage?

If you have a proper sized rad you wont need to use a fan.

Eh i have a fan on the car on a switch. but i shouldnt need to have it on all the time.
i THINK i have a GSI rad aswell but im not sure at all on that 1.
the thermostat is removed also.

What Coolant bottle cap would yee reccommend for it?

you want to put the thermostat back in and fit a bigger rad. Running without the stat although appears to make thing better then works against you as there is lower pressure in the block\ head which causes it to boil up.

its not boiling up though. just pressure.. after talking to our nova builder guy. it seems that the rad pipe was just rotten and fuked.. so maybe the new strong 1 will stop the problem.. some more testing maybe and see what happens...

also this is a pretty cool site.. never had so many nova peeps on a 1 site before.

get a new rad cap. a corsa one probably fits.

invest in really good jubilee clips.

fit a diesel stat, or a washer with a decent sized hole in it, to offer some resistance..

definitely wire the fan to a switch on the dash.

he allready has the fan on a switch ;)

i only road rally my car BUT when on a comp section the fan go's on switch it off for all other road sections, having the fan on really helps as on twisty technical sections the engine revs are high but the relative speed (air through the rad) is low

or is it just me? :)

yeah theres loads of air coming in. and the fan on the switch is only used for road sections after the stage..

hopefully the new pipe. and i will look into getting another rad cap. but ill be leaving the thermostat out aswell. the car is not overheating in anyway and runs happy days.. i must get some pictures up when my bro's photobucket gets back working..........
