this is probably a stupid question but what difference do the size of your wheels make?

epo

big wheels = better top speed
smaller wheels = better acceleration
i recon ne way (thats wot i was told)

i agree with the gearbox mod cos i did this last week, the other 2 previous records for site times with 1.6 8v held by cp and mc were also aided by the famous 4.18 mod, as long as you dont mind revving at 4300/4400ish at 80mph in fifth instead of 4000rpm lol

cheers for clearing that up for me.

replacing the final drive cog in the gearbox to aid with the quicker accelaration, i believe they use it out off a WR F13.

I have no idea about this just what ive picked up.

I got 16.2 secs out of a standard GSi lump with 16's and full interior so that time seems a little slow...........

I went on Sunday and that time isn't great but you are running 17" wheels. The thing I noticed is that its was scorthin on Sunday this affected my time - I wasn't as fast as previous attempts. I got 16.29 outta a standard gsi running 15" wheels and full interior. But Sunday was 16.53 and no quicker (I had added a 4-2-1 manifold since last time I went). I was pushing the bugger down the queue with the bonnet up just so it would cool down.

Would this redue the top speed? the very top I could get was 130 in my 1.6 8v but would this be reduced by this different gearing to increase accelleration?

Yes it will reduce your top speed. Not sure what it'll reduce it to tho.

dan was on a 3.94 and went to a 4.17 (or 4.18 cant rember exactly) and i work out that he would loose about 3-5% from top speed

Not really. Average 1.6's with zorst/filters etc but without head work and cams etc do 16.5/6.
If you had been competing in the Novaload Pod shootout you would have come last out of a field of 12 1.6's. The next slowest time was 16.63 - the fastest was 14.78
