a while ago my mums clutch got really heavy in her mk1 clio that the pedal kept jumping on the self adjusting pedal

i put a brand new clutch kit in and has been fine for about 2-3k miles

she was out in it again and she said the peddles hit the floor again

the clio has a self adjusting pedal and if the clutch is too heavy it jumps the teeth on the pedal

the pedal comes back up but the clutch has gone heavy again

surely the clutch cant be gone again, could it be the release bearing?

the cables are crap in them. a bad release bearing won't make a clutch heavy, but a knackered cable or crossshaft might, or get a new ratchet for it

i changed the ratchet when i changed the clutch

before i done any of that i replaced the cable too and made no difference

is the fork/cross shaft assy ok? i have had bad experiences with them & ratchet type clutches, but only on fords [cough cough]

are the bushes on the clutch pedal shot?

sorry dont know too much about gearboxes

do you mean the clutch fork where the cable attaches to on the gearbox?

i had my mum sit in the car and pump the clutch while i checked the cable and for and it all seems fine

i think the pedals fine as when we changed the clutch it was perfect now its going like it did last time

yup they can bend, seize up a bit, or the fork (the bit the release bearing joins to) can wear with age & move round to a funny position on the shaft causing all sorts of trouble.. on one vehicle i had, the actual lever attached to the cable had bent round

ill go and give it a dousing with wd40 and see if that helps any

i realy dont wanna have to change the clutch again as it a total pain in the ass to do with all the subframe crap

well gave it a dousing with wd40 where the cable attaches the gearbox

i pulled off the rubber grommet thing and sprayed it all and pumped the pedal about 50 times and seemed fine

hmmm

im using it later so will see what happens there

and the clutch shouldn't need it after a few k, can't you slip some muscle building supplements into your mums tea???

haha she can use the clutch easy enough its just when she pushes it down sometimes it goes right to the floor i.e. slipping on the ratchet

so to recap

you changed clutch, cable & ratchet.

either the fork is bent, the cable is stretched or the ratchet is shot... the clutch might feasibly be knackered, but you'd feel it thru the pedal, and in the way it drives.

yep its all been replaced, ill have a better look at the fork and see if it looks bent

or check the stuff you put on last year, some of those aftermarket ratchets are shocking

just cos a manufacturer makes a car in 1993, doesn't mean the 'genuine' parts are original spec, they start buying in the cheap stuff after a while & boxing it up in gfenuine boxes..

you should see what passes for a genuine gm water pump
