A mate is looking at one and has been offered it for £550 and I know nothing about them, pros & cons? First to say electrical problems wins a slap with a wet fish.

my mate owned a 1.4 and he didnt have any major problems, just usual wear and ter and bushes etc, but wel the car had a hard time getn thrown about the city centre every night, he sold it a wile back, and has just bought a 1.1 this week.

he seems to be happy with them so must be ok, but wel his dad works for peugeot

1999 should be OK with electrics, they changed to CANBUS (or similar crap) in late 01/02 which can be troublesome.

We have a 2001 1.9d with 130k miles, gets no real abuse, but no love at the same time. Hasn't give any real bother apart from usual wear and tear items such as bushings etc.

Main wear part is the back axle, bearings can go in them which are a pain to replace, usually easier replacing an axle, but second hand ones (in NI anyway are going for £250 plus!). Bearings are a fiver each new, but if the shaft is too worn, there is no point replacing them. First thing I done with ours (and any Peugeot we had before) is put grease nipples on the them and pack full of grease, gives no bother then!

I have (and am selling) my 2000 206 gti, Not had any problems in the 2 years i've owned it apart from the power steering pump squeaks now and again, but this has done this since i bought it.
I do like it and it's very pokey...but the only problem with this is it's very thirsty and costing too much to tax and insure so it has to go.

The interior just falls to bits!!!! I wasn't impressed with the build quality...

The wife has had her 1.4 glx 3 door for 6 years, in that time the worst repair was a thrust bearing so the clutch got done to, now at 90,000 miles it needs top mounts and a leaky steering rack fixed, but NO RUST lol

good wee car IMO

I had a 1.4lx on the road for a whole 2 months before I had had enough of it.
The coil pack is a common fault with them aswell.
My advice would be to save his money and get something else.
Mine was a 52 plate with 80k and I never trust it to get me the 3 miles to work each day.

I should add ours is a T reg, pre facelift and pre hassle.

My sister had a Gti-180, I hate them more than I hate Mk6 Asstras. As per previous comments, electrics were toss (alarm/immob system broke once, shorting out and refusing to disarm and randomly opening/closing the doors - then after Peugeot supposedly replaced the entire system it did it again), and interior would fall off in your hands. Handling, economy, power, ride comfort were pathetic but thats probably specific to the 180. At least I'd hope so anyway lol

Hayley had a 206 once too, which she slates as iirc she had no end of trouble with it as well.

I drove a 2000 GTi 206 for about a year, done 10k miles in it and i done nothing to it, never even checked the oil once. Probably one of the most hassle free cars i have ever had and extremly reliable.

I also would buy a ford the build quality and added extras far far far outweigh vauxhall, the newer gm's seem to have the edge on performance over the ford but ford beat it in every other way.
