x16xe blowing oil out

i went to a autocross today with my x16xe nova and when i finished the practice lap i parked up the car and had a look under the bonnet, the engine bay was covered in engine oil, it even got on to the windscreen, the oil was coming from a breather pipe and their was a slight tapping noise coming from the head so i think i broke a piston ring. anyone know why the engine is breathing so heavily?

i was hoping that was not the answer, i will do a compression test next week

Could broke a piston ring. Or engine could have detonated and cracked piston. Usual cause is to far advanced.
