recently, there have been a lot of threads about crazy modified cars & what people are trying to sell them for....

i would like to put my 4 pence worth into the debate...

example. the orange astra van.. we've all seen it.. the bloke has put £££££K+ into it over 5 years, and apart from the engine, its worth £100 scrappage less the collection cost.. yet he thinks its worth £12k.........

last night i went for a meal at the local harvester..... it cost me £25 including drinks & pudding... there is no way that what goes in the toilet today will be worth £25....

a kid who worked for our firm bought a 318 for £500, then cut holes all over it & stuck a grand worth of ICE into it.. he was then upset cos when he tried to sell it, he got offered £400.....

people need to get realistic, rarely is a car worth what you put into it, unless its a famous car & a collector wants it....cough a certain nova sport cough..

discuss.

i think the majority would agree lol lol lol

thats why any nova's that are worth anything get broken and sold as parts

You get far better value on crap cars IMO. I don't buy nice cars purely because you lose a bucket load of money! My Frontera was a prime example. Paid £420 with an MOT, then set about absolutely ruining it. Year later, No MOT. Power steering shot. Bodged fuel system. Bald tyres. £450 :) £30 profit for ruining a car? not bad :)

In fact the last 4 crappers ive had, ive either made a small profit or had a years free motoring (not including the insurance and fuel obv).

Thats why I will never spend money on a nice shiney car because it will rape your wallet dry, let alone spending silly money on modifying one.

Track toys, on the other hand, thats a different matter!

i'm really hoping my car goes up in value, just to keep her indoors off my back.....but then i don't intend to sell it, so it is irrelevant.

just to keep her indoors off my back......

Meh, just re-educate her, 4x2 should do the trick :thumb:

DAN, if only the missus was compliant....... she used to love novas, and drive them with the vigour they were meant to have, but then kids, airbags, euro encap etc came along....she stopped loving them.

Last year we have a student on placement with us over summer

He was really concerned for my safety when I turned up in a "Old" car (my Nova 1.3SR)

To quote/paraphrase " Oh my god, it doesn;t have any air bags or anti lock brakes" (or many other modern things.....power steering, NCAP rating, etclol )

He drove a 59 plate Audi A4 TDi    bearing in mind her was 18:eek:   which he recently crashed I found out:roll: mod cons didn't help then........ I suppose he wasn't seriously injured!!!!!

The point is not to crash in the first place ;)

If you're not going to put your car into a wall/another car/ditch you don't need to concern yourself with how it fares in an impact.

i will never sell the nova so i wouldnt bother putting a price on it but i know for a fact it wont ever be worth what i spend on it. more for fun/learning rather than profit

Its very hard to make a profit in selling on a modified car. They are always worth more in bits.

This is fine untill a knoooob hits you....:wtf:

I have never been under the impression I will get back what I have spent on any of my cars, doesnt stop me spending huge ammounts of money!

At the end of the day the money you put in might be worth what you get out of enjoying the car rather than what its resale value!:thumb:

Modified cars always have been and always will be a false economy,Barry thinks his kitted Nova is worth £3500 cos he spent 3grand on paint and kit is on drugs, because its custom to HIS needs/wants its only valuable to HIM,to me or thee its worth less than a good example as it would cost to put it back standard.
For a better idea look at the Lambretta's/vespa's theyre worth a fortune in standard form but once airbrushed and the like theyre not as valuable in sale form as its only to the taste of the person that built them.

My mate has 7 lambrettas that he bought over 10 years ago from £80 to £350 and one of them was an sx200 that's worth now over 6k

No one ever gets back what they've spent on modifying a car, anyone who thinks they can is either dreaming or been at the crack or some shizzle

God knows how much ive spent on the Sport but I would never sell so....

I will never have a modified daily again, I just buying some crap heap for £500ish run it into the ground the scrap it and get another

sorry, but 99% of airbrushing is crap. occasionally you get something impressive. i did photograph an austrian truck that had been airbrushed with the casino square section of the monaco gp, and all the cars 'sponsorship' was actually the company name & address for the haulage company. the detail was amazing.

TBH i've spent far more on the missus than my Nova, does that mean she is worth 10000's when i've worn it square? i think not! not unless i've worn it square before its had kidslol
