Hi,

This is my first post, so could be in the wrong place.
Just wondering approximately how much it would cost to build a gsi rep from shell?

Thanks

best and cheapest bet is to buy a rotten doner gsi and do a reshell if you have a good shell

Starting with absolutely nothing and buying everything?

Painting the shell or using a good one?

Using aftermarket parts from the motor factors or 100% GM Vauxhall stuff?

How long is a piece of string?

I know that is vague post.

Basically I am thinking of building a GSi rep for as cheap as possible..
Soo really I guess I should be asking for the cheapest?
Mostly GM btw..

Dont mean to be the bearer of bad news but "cheap" and Gsi dont go together anymore.

I'm not expecting it to be dirt cheap, but what is the cheapest way?
Just fancy a project.
I suppose starting with a decent shell would be best??

Cheapest way is a replica,it will look the same but will never command the same money as a genuine one should you sell it on. (despite what the retards on ebay think who put Gsi just cos its got a gsi bumper set and expect gsi money)
Also putting a 1.6 in a base model will make the insurance go up alot, for not alot of gain.
All depends on your budget

Basically I want a gsi look-a-like with probably a 2.0 engine?

Find the cleanest cheapest nova ideally MK2 Nova you can.

Swap the engine for an XE 'Redtop'

Buy a GSi front bumper and propably some speedlines lol

And your done.

You could manage that for propably just over around a grand on a tight budget.

best bet is to get a m.p.i nova (tank, lines and loom mostly already there) - so that'll be an sri or gte or gsi..
so may as well just get a gsi..? Plus they have best o.e spec; i reckon you can spend more turning a poverty spec model into a gsi; if youre pretty religious on the look-a-like front. (Gsi stickers/badges and vinyl anyone?)

Well Theres a nova GSi with a V6 In it for sale for 1200 quid i think its on here or on piston heads.

Best bet is to look out for a cheap GSi and just change bits and pieces on that i think.

Gsi front bumper - £100
mk2 nova - 1-2-3-4-£500+ depending on how clean
2.0 engine gearbox,mounts,shafts,strengthening etc.. - £5-600?
Youll propably want speedline alloys like all other GSi - £300?

Thats roughly all youd need

Then on top of Lewi's list, GSi parts like interior, dashboard, sideskirts, rear bumper, spoiler, stickers and vinyl and other recommended parts like suspension, braking, fixing and painting of the 1-2-3-4-500+ shell...

£3-£3.5k sound a decent figure?

For that you'd expect a mint original gsi mate

AdamAGsi, the problem is this.... you can buy a gsi rep off ebay with a 2.0 engine for probably a grand, it might be great, it might be a shed.

we aren't in the business of sorting out prices for building a nova.. there are cars on here that have probably had £20k+ spent on them, and look like a gsi with a 2.0 engine....

you can easily spend 5k on one if that is what you want... parts are getting really rare these days.....

decent shells are hard to find, they will need £500 on welding, £1k on paint, then labour to build up, then an xe will usually need £500 spending on a rebuild, then there is the decent suspension kit to do it properly & the brakes......

hopefully you will see why we don't want to put a price on it... apart from Lewi, who hasn't managed to get one legal & on the road yet (IIRC)

£2k-£2.5k? To build one I mean..?

to buy a good original 1.6 gsi.. then add £1.5k for putting the engine & upgrades needed to do it properly
