View Full Version : worst handling car
whats the worst handling car youve ever drove in the standard setup
im talking about cars from the 1990 to now
id have to say my mums m reg clio the thing has so much body roll its unreal
dodge people carrier in 2002, miami.. horrendous on normal roads, but like driving a sofa on the highway......
citroen picasso, the creme egg car type..... its got the feedback of a fisher price kiddy car..... hateful thing
i know its not really a car, but everything LDV ever made...crap
Mk1 clio's are pretty epic, Standard suspension and 13inch steels with massive tyres makes a fun but really dodgy handling car.
Std corsa's and nova's are pretty much the same, Deadly if you push too hard
renault 21 turbo, are just shocking.
200bhp, fwd, engine out over the front. and a massive barge of a car. not fun lol. it made me poo my pants lol.
a few vectra b's ive drover were pretty bad aswell but im used to driving small cars so could be that
mk3 astra does a lovely line in understeer.......
Nissan bluebird turbo. Hairaisingly scary with shocking brakes!
MK1 MR2 with a V6 in the back when all the suspension has just been lobbed on, not setup and none of the tracking done.
trouble is that handling is a personal preference.....
the worst handling car i ever drove ever, was a morris ital 1.7 that i got for its axle & front hubs for my moggie pickup.... in 1998, it truly was the most shocking driving experience ever....
but mk999, i dispute your view...
a 1.2 merit with low mileage, and fresh suspension, on 145r13 tyres was the first car i drove quickly.... it was hilarious to drive... most people have only driven either shagged ones or massively modified ones.
1.2i, low mileage (45k when I picked it up) totally standard and no broken bits etc, handles like ****.
It may be fun when it's the first thing you've ever driven that you're allowed to drive vaguely fast but they certainly don't handle well. The front runs negative camber at the standard ride height and when it rolls 20 degrees you end up running 25 degrees of said camber lol It makes the tyres squeal at 20 if you turn into a tight corner, and doing motorway miles is nothing short of terrifying as it wobbles around the lane like an 800 kilo blancmange. Not to mention the massive brown trouser moment when you come off onto the sliproad and the lights go red, as the standard stopping distance for a 1.2i nova at 70 is around 2 miles. lol
Dropped 60mm on coilovers and stripped out on 195/45/15's it was an entirely different animal and the potential of it was way beyond what I felt comfortable exploring on the road.
Nova. Everything else I've driven has been more modern. May I just say, although they look **** K11 Micra's handle AWESOME they're only let down by the sloppy suspension in my opinion.

That is so true to when I got my first Nova.
mk. i was using mine with completely std suspension, no arbs, std brakes, 165.70r13 tyres on the std rims & then i stuck in my 1400 engine, so about 90hp... and as i say, it was hilarious.... and it beat a lot of cars cross country, and the motorway speeds were fine, i was doing 115 on the autobahn with no trouble at all,
then i stuck bigger wheels on, spax suspension, bigger brakes, it went a lot faster cross country, but didn't necessarily feel any better
in fact, my current one feels overtyred to me, and i will be looking for skinnier tyres when they need swapping....

1991 V8 Range Rover.. tried a lane change at 80mph... **** the bed!!!
Agree with the aforementioned Nova BUT to be fair, you'd never really expect one to handle all that well as its just a shopping cart not a sporty little number.
Aside from that, in standard form, 206 GTi-180. Worst. Car. Ever. In fact, the handling is so bad as standard I'd say it was almost dangerous! lol
As for non-standard cars, I'd say my V6 lol

I've got to agree.. I'm running a 'super s' k11 alongside my Uno Turbo at the moment (you need a back up car when owning a turbo'd Fiat) and it handles really well!

Both nice and cheap to insure.. I'll probably sell the Uno shortly and swap the policy onto to my turbo'd Mk1 Mr2.. then even I need to bend over
Vauxhall Nova.Its got to be.

I wish!
Amazingly it is diffiicult for Sky staff to get insured here on our schemes, we have to meet the same age, postcode and vehicle criteria as all of our customers. I'm just lucky I'm almost 30 and have the perfect sort of cars for our schemes.

xr2's n xr3's are fun lol
An XR2 Mk2 would be a close 2nd for best handling
XR3i's were pretty good

Nova Sr.
Dangerous is the word i'd use. A slight dribble of rain and you have 15 miles of understeer, even at 10mph. As for the brakes
Best is a Clio 16V, insane turn in and just keeps gripping. I miss my 16V more than my old novas
106 xsi
Fooking shocking, handling crap, turning circle crap, front end suspension brittle and crap, electrics crap
Awful cars Pugs, how can some people call some of their range classics, like 205's, I'll never know
Worst was my Nova Gsi with 20XE on standard suspension. Changed lanes on the motorway under hard acceleration.

I thought 106xsi was quite fun really,a friend of mine used to have one
205 gti or T16 not a classic but a Nova sport is??!! haha lol lol
No nova is a classic lol
I agree lol lol
I drove a mates Mini which he had put the rear subframe on deliberately cock eyed.
It went round roundabouts like you wouldn't believe, but when it came to turning left, you were going in a hedge whether you liked it or not :)

Dads old jag xjs v12, understeer, overseers hedge.
Like a tank, and Shiite on fuel lol
Best I'd say is my mates mk5 golf gti, or a lad has an imprezza 3 door type r import, that's point and shoot (obviously I was in the passenger seat lol)
Jacks V6 saloon, when it comes to turning, youre going in a hedge whether you like it or not :)

my mk1 punto
seriously people, how many of you actually drove a nova when it was less than 2 years old, and on its original wheels??? they were fine handling little cars...the sr was an exercise in make a car look sporty & slap in a big interior, sunroof & vinyl, but it was not a good as a lesser model.....
most peoples perception is from when they drive a car with slack bushes, saggy suspension & cheap tyres..
lol
And if there's no hedge it'll damn well find one and put you through it.

Definately my nova lol, the body roll on it makes it feel like I'm all out to sea in the bloody thing!!

Friends MK2 golf on cut springs...
Dives under any remotely angled corner, then understeers for 2 miles, then as it finally gains traction the body lurches/rolls to go in the direction of the wheels in turn causing the back to try and impersonate a RWD car.

I actually brought a black 1.2 merit in 1991 brand new, it handled pretty well funnily enough although in the dry. But it falls off the road even if a bird gets slightly moist in the passenger seatlol

Mines done 10k, so can't be far off new.
It's handles ok, but it's done 3 miles round the block in my ownership, with me as a passenger! All I have done is backed it out of the current storage, and put it back in lol

Mk3 fiesta 1.8 diesel worst car period. Handled like a canal boat in a storm and had about 2 Bhp as in 2 broken horses that were into glue power.
Never broke down though

Cars have periods? Now I know why people call their cars "she" when they're temper mental.
Cavalier turbo. Had been smacked up the ****, the steering was clunking, grinding, clicking and groaning. Tracking was awful, the engine was in one mount, sort of, there was literally no rubber left on the rear mount, was on awful 18s with very very very tired suspension.
All in all was horrendous.
Oh and the track rod ends were as good as seized solid with no gaitor on one of them.

Funny you say that, a local lads used to swap ends in the wet, just randomly on its own lol
mk3 astray with shagged boggo suspension, was absolutely hideous
freelander wins hands down lol

i didn't want to mention that, as i don't consider it to be a car

my 84 merit was like that until i changed the firestone originals for uniroyals...
Xr3i, struggle to overcome the understeer, and when you do, you end up trying to control rear end from oversteer.
or replace the work bottom arms/bushes & watch it handle......
i have driven a 205 that was the most dangerous car ever in a corner due to knackered bushes... it actually grabbed the wheel & turned further into the corner on its own & only by luck & heavy braking did i avoid ditching it....once fixed, it was fine again

I also find it rather baffling when people say the Nova is a crap handling car. Of all the models I've had (standard 1.2 and up), they have all been great fun, and entirely predictable to drive so I could push them hard easily.
Worst handling car - Peugeot 205. But this was a modified 1.9 GTi I owned briefly. The previous owner had lowered it way too much. A slight bump in the road would send the car off in any random direction.
The only reason I said Nova is because apart from a Chevette and K11 Micra, its the only old car I've driven, and the previous two handle much better lol
bathfart, i have driven chevettes, they are awful, just because they are rwd doesn't make them good..
the micra is better because of something called 20 years of development...... the old square micra, in my opinion was adequate at best, and certainly not as good as a nova.
mk3 astra 1.4 with a c20xe on standard suspension

a citroen 2cv was pretty dangerous!
Did it got fast enough for you to find out if it handled well? lol
a few ive had that would take some beating are 309 gti (mi16),mk2 xr2, clio,
one of the worst would have to be the nova im sorry to say, it would of been raped by any of the above all day long, was the only thing i never ever liked of the car tbh
ill say the lovely fiat panda seen one roll cornering hard
i didn't want to mention that, as i don't consider it to be a car
i owned one for a short while. was total pants ......

Nissan bluebird turbo. Hairaisingly scary with shocking brakes!
I use to drive 1.6 & 2.0l Bluebirds, always use to say I'd driven better tractorslol
In fact a block of wood handles better than a bluebirdlol
Late escorts were also poor use to drive a 1.8 Ghia ride quality was good but understeer was unreal, use to to be hilarious on a wet roundaboutlol
Bearing in mind both of the above were companiy vehicles and well maintained
Bearing in mind both of the above were companiy vehicles and well maintained but abused daily
